There are a few reasons I chose the SR-5 over the TRD Sport which is the only version of the TRD available in quad cab in Canada. The TRD Sport did not come with the locker, traction control, or any of the skid plates, all of which are what initially attracted me to the TRD. Of course the Bilstein shocks were a plus but they alone are not worth the cost difference which is about $3000. Painted mirrors, bumper and door handles were not the reason for wanting the TRD either and although they are a nice touch I can have that done anytime. I do like the hood on the TRD but I can purchase that anytime as well. So that got me thinking, for $3000 I can get a canopy and the Bilstein 5100 setup with AAL and tires. So that's what I did. I pick the truck up on Friday and drop it off for the 'lift' and tires on Wed.

Why a 2015 when the 2016 is just around the corner? Because it's been around for ten years and it's proven. I didn't feel like dealing with the potential first year problems that new models are generally plagued with. No the new look doesn't bother me too much, it looks too much like the Gen 2 IMO to get too excited about.

They do but only in the access cab and I wanted four doors. In the photo I posted just in front of my truck across the lot is a grey TRD OR but it's an access cab.

The double cab TRD Sport doesn't have the BFG tires, skid plates (other the transfer case) traction control, or the rear diff locker. Otherwise it's the same truck as the OR. If you opt for the $2700 Trails Team add on package on the OR access cab you get the TRD 16" bead lock style wheels, TRD exhaust, black side step bars and not listed in the list of extras but pictured on the truck are BFG ALL Terrain TA instead of the Rugged Trail TA. Oh and a TRD Trails Team sticker on the side of the box instead of the TRD Off Road decal.

Now, the TRD Trail Team Sport add on package for the TRD Sport double cab which is $1950 gives you the roof rails, black side step bars, front skid plate, TRD exhaust and unique decal. Both come with a TRD wallet of sorts.

Also, the TRD OR (access cab only) comes with 16" wheels and tires whereas the TRD Sport (double cab only) come with 17" wheels and tires.

The SR5 comes with the same 16" wheels as the TRD OR (unless you opt for the Trail Team add on package for the TRD OR) but it has the Dunlop tires, not the BFG Rugged Trail tires.

Lol. So do I. With my luck I'll need uca's and a solid drive shaft.

I'm also new to this community so I wouldn't know if you would need that , I just bought my truck on June 1st , I drove my dads 01 prerunner a few years back that's when I began to want one , I'm just gonna do minor tweaks to mine like the grille and eventually the tires, when it need them I'm planning on getting the BFg all terrain instead of the rugged trail

I wish we got the TRD OFF ROAD DCSB here....damn Toyota. Oh well, with the money saved I was able to get a canopy, tires, and the 5100 suspension.

Thank. I've driven manuals all my life so it was nice to be able to get back into a manual shift with the options I wanted. I'm not sure what the complaints are about the 6MT, I think it's a pretty slick shifting 6 speed. It is a truck after all and that's what I enjoyed about it most when I drove it. That it drove like a truck and not a CUV.

Thanks mattgecko. I've been on the forum for hours researching stuff and mods. I think I may have made an error in buying a platform with such a large aftermarket base. I see you are running 33" tires. I would like to do the same but worry I would rub with the 5100s even at full height on stock wheels. I thought of the SpiderTrax spacers but don't know if that would be enough. It's all for looks as this truck will not be going off road. What's your opinion?

I run 33" w/ 5100 (2 3/4" lift), I had to remove the mud flaps and do a tiny bit of plastic trimming in the front wheel wells.

Thanks. Just picked it up today and love the truck. It was a bit of a shock since I'm coming from a 2014 Santa Fe Sport Limited which had all the bells and whistles and covered cargo, it's a good thing I have a canopy arriving in a week or two.
