Sidewall Falling Off

Just wondering. If anyone has ever seen this? These tires have about 40k and half their tread left. Talked with Michelin they say it could be because the are 108T and I need a 110S load rating for the truck. Going tomorrow to get them looked at by a tire shop and then it is on to figuring out warranty issues. Do you think there in an impact to the integrity of the tire?

 

Last time I saw that, the chick used the curb as a parking guide.

 

I have the same problem with mine, but mine are retreaded tires from treadwright so I cant complain too much. So to answer your question yes I have seen it, have I seen it on tires that were newly created and not revived from the dead to be made new again, no. I also have to say that I have used mine to mount curbs then drop off them as a "guide" per se to initally set me straight. I have a peculiar way of parallel parking the truck but it works great and I am never crooked.

I will say I have been beating the living shit out of mine for a long time since it started happening and nothing has happened to them, so take it for what it is, then again, mine are A/T's.

 

Not really the case here. There is a crack 360 degrees and it is just getting worse.

 

You may have some kind of warranty through Michelin. I would just upgrade to LT tires however, but if you have a lot of life in them still I would just get one new one and wear them all down then upgrade to better tires. Just my .02.

 

Well it's three of the four tires. The fourth was just replaced because of a screw in the sidewall last year. It's in solid shape. They say I have a warranty but it may not be valid because of the load rating. With that they said I need to deal the store that sold me the tires. They say the tires should never been installed because of the load rating difference. I think it's BS and their way of getting out of paying for them. Guess we will see.

 

Is the integrity of the tire still there or is it compromised?

 

I personally wouldn't feel comfortable riding on those.

How many years old are they? That rubber looks pretty dried out.

 

This and/or driving it while it is flat. I don't know, but it's definitely had some abrasion with something all the way around it.

Dry rot due to storage. Unfortunately it appears that you happened to receive some of the oldest batch of the tires that have been sitting around for quite some time. That does happen and tire shops don't give a shit nor do they ever fess up to it.

 

I would think the same on an abrasion but three tires all have the crack running all the way around with dry rot along it.

 

Also looking at discount tires road hazard warranty. Bought it with my new tire and he said I could add it to the others. Now I need to find out if this is covered.

 

It looks like dry rot to me. That rubber is just drying and rotting. Hopefully you can find something in Michelin's warranty to help you out though.

At least you've gotten nearly 4 years out of them though!

 

Check the DOT code on the sidewall and you can find out when the tires were mfg and if the tire place sold you old stock tires.

 

Dry rot! I wouldn't drive on those tires. Prime for a blow out. You should not drive on tires after a certain time period regardless of tread wear.

 

It is definitely dry rot. The integrity is comprimised and you need new tries right away. The last 4 digits of the DOT # will tell you the week and year when they were made.

 

Look a little sketch to me. Knock on wood, I get cheap, low rated tires (Fuzions) and they have never done that to me, despite how I abuse my truck. I've had the nearly the weight of my truck in the bed before.

 

How old are they? I had Michelins that were seven years old with plenty of tread left. The sidewalls started cracking so I replaced them. My Firestones started cracking after four years. I was told using bleaching products such as Bletchley's tire cleaner was a culprit. The detergent agents in tire cleaner weaken sidewalls over time. Also, old tires just fail, especially if they were sitting for any length of time. There are warranties, but if you used any cleaning agents on the tire, the warranty is voided.

 

Personal opinion is Michelin=junk. My dad had a set on his truck that were about 3 years old and the sidewalks were starting to split. He talked to the dealer then made a call to Michelin . The response by Michelin was tough luck, we can't help you. I just think that they are overrated.
