I have beat the crap out of this truck since brand new and have experienced none of the problems other than the crappy sound system.

    It's a truck, not a Rolls Royce.

I forgot to put my battery on the list.It was replaced at about 34,000 miles.
P.S. The oil leak on the square cover on the number one head is still leaking after hosing it off. Not a big deal it's only 4 bolts and may take about 15 to 20 minutes to fix. Apparently the dealership tried to reuse the gasket when I took it back for the VVT problem.

I have a update. The square cover leak did continue to leak. The retarded Toyota tech put the freakin thing on backwards. The curved edge was to the inside when I believe it is supposed to be on the outside. I pulled it off and I could see bolt marks on both sides confirming it was on the other way at one point. Could someone look at theirs and please confirm this.

the left side of the tail gate does not close perfectly flush with the body. its about 1/4 inch off. (in fact, you can see it in my sig pic)
the brake pedal makes a squishy, hydraulic sound when pressed. the brakes are perfectly fine, its just the pedal noise.

Have 85,000 miles on it and took it in at 15000, told them about the truck bottoming out when hitting a small pebble on the road. Could not haul any thing heavier than my dog in the back. Finally saw the TSB when I had 75,000, thank God I kept the paperwork when I told them about the suspension problem, they fixed that. Clanking when backing up slowly within the first 20 feet, and when going forward. Dealership advised it was normal... Kept the paperwork. Truck wants to pull to the right now had it alligned at 80,000 was out on one part, still pulls to the right. Dealership said it was the tires and to check with the tire installer, starting the circle effect. Had an issue with the air conditioner blower motor ticking. Took it to the dealership several times and replicated the noise for them. The service tech asked if I really knew I was hearing things since he did not hear it... got really loud and angry with him chased him back in the dealership. Took it to another dealership and they fixed it first time. Will reccomend to anyone thinking about after market wheels make sure they do not use the sticky weights. I have had hell with keeping the weights to stay on, wheels have to be balanced every rotation, and sometimes between rotations. Other than the fore mentioned novel, I love this truck!!!

    I have eight days/285 miles on my Taco's "clock". It's a 2010 Access Cab, 2WD, 2.7L/5spd/LSD, SR5.

I've thoroughly examined the thing and not found a flaw. Everything works without strange noises. I've owned Toyotas for thirty years. If something was wrong, I'd know it. I'm a very sensitive guy.

First fuel refill was at 275 miles. The fuel gauge is accurate: 10.5 gal to fill a tank showing 1/2 full. 25.8 mpg for that bit of mixed city/highway driving (mostly city) was very satisfactory but I'm not going to shout about it until I have a 10-tank average.

I started the truck in my parking structure and drove it 20 feet before the engine sputtered and died. Annoyed, I didn't bother to diagnose whether there was fuel or spark, and had the truck towed to Toyota. The dealership has not yet looked at the truck, but is confident that they can diagnose and fix it on Monday. We shall see.

This is the first new vehicle that I haven't immediately voided the powertrain warranty on, and oddly enough it's the first to break.

beyod my previous issues, i now have more to add.. My Tire Pressure Sensors are all gone or something the light won't go away and my tire pressure is all good, my airbag light just came on. E-brake sensor says the e-brake is engaged when it isn't and comes on when i start driving and hit the brakes to slow down or let off the clutch to go. bolts holding the bed down keep coming loose after i've torqued them down along with lock-tight. Tail-gate is extremely creased, yet i have not put any weight on it for an extended amount of time, nor have i dropped anything on it.. Dealer says warranty won't cover it.. The most amount of weight ever on the tail gate is 225lbs, and thats my dirtbike.. and i use a ramp to get the bike into the truck.

    I. Lower Left Dash Panel poor fitment fixed under TSB (Don't ask me how, but the only dealer within 300 miles took 6 trips to the shop to fix it. I read the TSB and it was plain as day on how to fix it; I asked the service manager wtf? and got the standard apologies)

II. Radio suffered catastrophic power failure three times, each one replaced under warranty. I sold my truck before anymore could die on me.

III. During extreme cold weather (-40F or colder), interior dome light and door ajar light would not turn off no matter how hard the door was shut. Problem never fixed as it "could not be duplicated" by the tech. I don't find this a fault with the truck however, as everything breaks in that type of weather.

IV. Engine tick was too annoying, so I had the TSB for new exhaust manifolds performed. Didn't fix the problem.

    V. I'm not going into detail because I get tired of explaining it to people, but on three occasions my truck suffered sudden acceleration. Each time was at a stop light and was calmed by putting it in neutral and shutting the engine off. Toyota says it's "driver error".

VI. I never got a copy of the TSB, but apparently Tacomas with certain build dates were shipped without a piece of foam? around the airbox or something. Basically, when in reverse, it made for a slight rattle (plastic on plastic noise) near the passenger front quarterpanel. Toyota fixed this; I didn't ask them to elaborate, but the noise went away.

VII. Heater core was replaced the first winter, as it developed a nasty whine. Bad enough that The radio couldn't drown it out. Oh, and it stopped blowing warm air right about when the temperature dipped below zero. Dealership said many earlier 2nd gen models had defective heater cores.

VIII. Overhead console/compass failed. Replaced under warranty. Apparently that is common.

I think that's about it. Nothing that made me despise my truck, but between the many little issues and the way the dealership handled them, I am glad that I sold the truck. I'm probably going to purchase another one next year, so hopefully some of those little issues have gone away.

Whoa! It's taken me quite a while to find someone with a similar problem. This happened to me on my Access Cab. The dealer could never replicate the problem, so it wasn't fixed. I asked that they replace the door sensors, but they wouldn't without experiencing the problem themselves.

When radiator is out of fluid, it will not pull from the reservoir, which will keep any low fluid light from coming on even if you fill the reservoir (Which will stay full). When radiator has no fluid, and sensor is not in liquid, reports normal running temperature. This caused a total failure of the engine.

    Anyone experience anything similar?

I thought i read another from you about a missing hose clamp?

If the case, it sounds to me like the beef would be with the last person who serviced it (the radiator / coolant) in that case. If you bought it used, did you get or at least look at the maintenance records and try and find out who serviced the radiator?

    Tough break, either way.

I just bought a used 06 prerunner sr5 and I noticed on both sides under the door area theres a line in the paint that looks like sorta orange peel. Like I said its on both sides. I doubt the truck has been in an accident I had an autocheck done by experian and nothing came up. Is this just a bad paint on the weld area or what. Thanks

Just today I started to back out of a parking spot and it sounded like a terrible clunk, I first thoughtcarrier bearing /u joints etc. Took it to a shop and lifted it up. Not finding anything wrong. Although the sound still existed. Went home and thought to look at the drive shaft itself. Suddenly noticed there was a piece of protective metal between gas tank and drive shaft, maybe 3 inches or so, the metal was bent from offroading and was touching the drive shaft, this was something I would have never thought about. Now this piece of metal is very thin and easily bent out of place. I bent it back and took a spin and sound was gone.
