We just purchased a new 2015 TRD Off Road which has the OEM BFG Rugged Trails. I replaced the OEM Dunlops that came with our 2011 TRD Sport with Michelin LTX M/S2's almost immediately after I purchased this truck. Should I do the same with the BFG's.

I know for sure the BFG's are not the same quality as the Michellin's but can I expect decent performance for 25,000-30,000 miles.

The new truck will be driven daily on ten miles of gravel roads and about 50 miles of paved highway and city streets. No off-roading. Usual road condition for the midwest...some wet roads, ice and snow in the winter. Usually not too much snow.

I'm not all that concerned about treadwear. This is my wife's daily driver and I want her on safe tires.

Are they Trails or Terrains? I have about 53,000 on my original OEM Rugged Terrains. I feel that they know deep down inside that I want to replace them ( to go bigger) because they are refusing to wear. I've heard negative opinions on the rugged Trails, but the Terrains are top notch and I have never felt unsafe in all my travels.

I've got Michelin LTX M/S2's on my Taco. Love them. However, they grab and throw gravel like crazy. I drive mostly highway. But if a road has been chip sealed or there is construction nearby it always hear rocks hitting the wheel wells once I hit pavement again.

If you're doing 10miles on gravel every day I'm just wondering if you'll end up with paint issues?

Maybe Michelin LTX AT 2's? They are designed for off pavement use anyhow!

Rugged terrains NEVER came as an OEM option from the factory.... you likely had dealer rims put on with different tires.

OP, do yourself a favor..... get some MS2's or Hankook Dyanpro RF10's or SOMETHING other than the shit they call a tire known as the BFG rugged trail.... its a horrible tire, sucks in the rain and just about everything other than a straight line on dry pavement. Pull them off, sell them on CL and get a new set of tires for 300-400 bucks after selling off the originals.

Like I said earlier... I had Michelin LTX M/S2's (two sets) on my wife's 2011 TRD Sport as well as her 2005 regular cab Tacoma and her 2002 regular cab Tacoma. I have also had them on all three of my Ram Hemi's. Darn good tires. No damage to paint to any of the vehicles from the tires over the past twelve years. BUT all of these trucks have had step tubes and mud guards to protect the lower sides. I had a set of the LTX A/T2's on one off my Rams. They did kick up a bit of gravel but still no damage to the truck's finish. IMO the Michelins are the best tire you can put on a daily driver which is not used off road.

Now about the BFG's that are on the tuck. I may or may not put them on Craig's List after I give then a try on wet pavement. I did that on her last Tacoma and got $150 out of the set. The price of the new Michelins, adding in taxes and a very good road hazard guaranty, is almost $900. What the heck, it's only money, right?

Whatever dude! OEM for GST... The point being, if in fact the OP had Terrains, I was vouching for there quality over the Trails. He does not have the Terrains, so it is a moot point.
