I just want a computer to turn on and work. I'm not tech savvy and have zero desire to create my own tower (which who uses those anymore?)/computer.
I like that Macs are easy and don't require a frigging tech degree to maintain.
I should be able to surf or open what I want without fear of it destroying an expensive machine. That is one of my favorite features. I don't have to dish out $$$ every year for crappy antivirus software that has consistantly failed me with every PC I've had.

I have both a tower and laptop. I'd argue with tablets laptops aren't worth owning anymore for most people. I only have my laptop for field work.

Lots of people still run towers. However, X86-64 machines in general are going the way of the dodo bird. Eventually Tablets/Hybrids will take over as they become better and better. Hence the reason Microsoft has hinted that this might be the last totally new version of Windows.

I agree for the tech illiterate, busy, and/or lazy apple works great. Simple OS for email and surfing the Web. It's very simple though to find a good laptop that doesn't have a fruit on it and will cost you half as much with exactly the same hardware inside. If you find it slow have a tech buddy wipe the bloatware from whichever company built it and the thing will fly just like a Mac, only at half the cost. That's my point.

I do a lot of tech support for family and friends. Mac hardware is just as likely to fail as windows hardware. Shitty thing is how hard it is to get into some of those newer sleeker MacBooks. You really should run anti virus software on any system, even apple. Apple doesn't update there vulnerabilities as often as windows. There are attacks amd viruses pointed at Macs now. Have been for a while. Btw windows antivirus is now free...

No offense, but if people are getting viruses in this current Windows environment it's because they refuse to upgrade to 8.1 and likely download to much copyrighted shit from the internet that's illegal in the first place. That or porn :D.

I'm well aware of the fact that macs are running the same hardware as a lot of the others, and what I'm paying for is the OS, and the sleek design. What comes with that is a machine that does what I want, without issues, and does it better. Obviously that isn't worth it to some people. It is to me.

Also, yes I can build a hackintosh and run the Apple OS for less money. That requires a lot of research, and you still run the risk of having a machine that you can't update the OS on, and it looks like a PC.

If I can't download as much porn and pirated movies and pirated porn much as possible, without fear of messing up my computer, then what good is the computer?

That in bold is the problem. Work around computers enough and you learn that Mac doesn't do anything better. It's just more dumbed down. Which, like I said, is great for some people. I'm not here to say there isn't a single advantage to running Mac because there are advantages to the Unix based system Mac runs and the effort that was put into simplifying OS X. There are disadvantages too. For me, after spending close to $4K on two pretty iMacs in two years that both fried their motherboards though I was done with Mac.

The biggest "advantage" for Mac users is when you buy into their entire product line. Since the iPhone and iPod dominated marketshare a ton of people bought in to the Mac universe. Mac laptops, routers, stereos, iPods, and iPads really do work seamlessly together and I'm not going to knock that. Look at the money you waste though going with that system. Hell, just in iMacs, AppleTV, phones, and a time machine I was in over $6K CAD. It's robbery to me, but I understand how it may appear not so to others. Similar to how some can justify a Lexus over the same model of Toyota as being a "better buy". Not to mention how hard it is to get out of that model once you are in it. Apple makes sure none of there products work with any other electronic device unless they are getting paid large dollars to be compatible. They even invent their own, less capable, connections to prevent people from buying cheaper products. Lightning cables still run USB 2.0, which is a joke, and Thunderbolt is no where close to being ready to be properly utilized. Mac even tried to bully electronics companies into using the FireWire port for media devices that had no need for it.

As for the Mac Pro that thing is retarded expensive and doesn't do anything that fast until you spend at least $3K on one. If you need that sort of power you should just go to a local independent computer store, every city has one, and have something built for what you are trying to do.

Mac laptops for students and people who want to Tor, BitTorrent, or otherwise as much random files as possible onto there computer I get it. Yes, most viruses and other bad things for computers on the net, are targeted at Windows computer so you can dodge most of that crap. Eventually though, especially if you download pirated Mac software, it'll catch up to you irregardless of which system you prefer. You won't mess up your Mac with all that pirated stuff the way you mess up a windows computer but you can turn it into a bot. Look over the last 5 years and google "macs into bots?". Tons of cases of Macs being compromised and used for organized crime.

Macbook Pris are hands down better than PCs.

Sterdog, I don't find a lot of what you say to be true to my experience. My Macbook Pros is much faster than any PC I have had. I like the new stationary harddrives and should have gotten one of those when I replaced my stolen one.
I have had no problems with malware or viruses when ALL of my PC's have had problem by this time.

They have been the best computers.

My favorite is they operate better than PC's with the track pad and keyboard functions. Much more user friendly. The guy who made up Windows 8 should be in jail.

    You mean Macbook Pro lol.

Also you mean Solid State Drive. SSD for short.

Anyways, no point in arguing. Glad you like your Mac. For me, they aren't worth the money. It is exactly, I repeat EXACTLY, the same components as a PC for double the cost. You are paying for the OS. The OS isn't worth it to me because I'm tech literate enough that Malware and Viruses aren't an issue for me. I don't bit torrrent or download a bunch of videos or music so I don't have to worrry about those issues. I also know that Mac's aren't immune to those things anymore.

IMHO, and a lot of people agree, Mac has a cult following and arguing with a Mac fan is like arguing with a wall.

apple is great at marketing. they are great at making things so easy a baby can do. they have become the wolf and people that are not tech savvy have become sheep.

they have so much control over their sheep that they don't even share a charging port within their own product lines. I mean, every phone, bluetooth, and gps all share the same charging port, regardless of brand, besides apple.

cheers to you sheep, cheers to you.

PC followers are no less a cult following than Mac owers simply because a majority of computer owners aren't very tech literate.

PCs are the way to go if you can or want to build your own computer, no doubt about that. But it's a lie to sit here and say Macs need to cost 3 grand before they are akin to the speed and capability of a PC (I'm not that tech stupid).
Macs are not that much more expensive than a PC. To get a PC with the same advertized specs as my Mac was only $100 different. I spent more on my peice of shit HP than my Mac. $400 more.

You have tech knowledge and a PC works better for your needs. I'm not arguing with that I'm simply stating I think a lot of your "reasons" aren't exactly accurate. If Macs are so crappy then one shouldn't have to exaggerate claims to put them down.

OP, You lost credibility when you said Apple was a crappy company.

Their products may not be for you, they certainly aren't the best fit for everyone. Their business model is brilliant though. Their ability to get disruptive innovations to market is impressive.

I've had three iPhones and one Android phone since 2007. I'm definitely not an early adapter or a technology fiend, just a guy that wants a phone that will last. My current phone, an iPhone 4, is from 2011 and still going strong despite having never been inside of a case. Sure, I don't have Siri...but I also only have 7 apps, two of which are for work, so who cares?

I said the Mac Pro will be $3K by the time you build it for video editing, which is true.

A good Macbook Pro is only about $1400 USD. It'll have similar specifications to a ~$1K ultrabook.

I never exaggerated. Which HP did you compare to the Macbook Pro that was $100 different for the same thing? The cheapest Mac anything here is almost $1K, and that's for basically a Mac netbook. My last iMac was $1800 before tax and had a crappy notebook graphics card and 4 GB of Ram. I built my current tower for the same amount with a 3770K Processor, 16 GB of Ram, two SSD's, and a top end graphics card. The Mac Pro at that time that compared to my computer would of been ~$3K.

LOL, we have a guy at work with that phone. The camera broke almost the same day he bought it and some water got in through the smashed glass. Dead phone.

People should buy whatever makes them happy. I'm out.

My HP was $400 more than my Mac.
When I looked at PCs after I bought it I found some with similar capabilities for a $100 difference. What those brands were IDK.

    My Mac was $1,099.00.
You said Mac books were retarded and didn't do anything fast unless you spent $3K. False.

Your rants are directed to higher level computers. The average person is not going to buy that. Your over all claim is that Macs suck compared to PCs but your arguments don't add up for day to day computers people buy.
PCs are better for people who want high tech computers. Have said that plenty now. It makes less of a difference with day to day buyers if not goes in favor of Macs.

No, I was talking about the Mac Pro. You are the one who doesn't know that the Mac Pro, Macbook Pro, and Macbook are totally different products. Read my posts. The Mac Pro is a tower computer used for performance intensive tasks. They easily cross into the 3k range with screen included. I think with most options they can cost as much as 7k, but it's been a while since I've looked at them.

I never claimed Macs sucks. I claimed that I have had terrible luck with their iMac lineup reliability wise and that there products are roughly twice the price for the exact same computer. Both of those things are true. Yes, the entry level Macbook Pro is roughly 1099. It matches up with windows laptops in the 700-800 range.

Christ, my last Sony Viao with a core i7 ULV processor, SSD, and 8 gigs of Ram only cost 1k, and that thing would run circles around a Macbook Pro with a conventional drive and core i5. Not to mention my Sonys ultra low voltage processor got about 7 hours IRL out of a 6 cell battery.

I don't have a dog in the fight, but doubling $800 is $1600...significantly more than $1099. The basis of your point might be true (I have no clue), but you're being dramatic with your examples.

True. I was throwing out double more as a term but I can see it's being taken literally. My bad. Usually there is several hundred dollars of difference between similar Macs and PCs. In my experience it's often been close to double the cost to buy a Mac for my purposes.

The other thing is that you are all dealing in USD. It's hard for me to talk price in exact terms because the price of things electronic here doesn't always just follow the exchange rate.

In any case, the last time I priced out and bought a laptop I bought a high end Sony ultra book in pretty stainless steel finish, just like a Mac, for just under 100 dollars from the cheapest 11" small size Macbook. The cheapest Macbook Pro was 1499. The Macbook Pro with SSD was 1699. All in CAD.

Why bother arguing with @PackCon, says he has an f250 so you know hes an idiot and you won't sway him.

My Asus laptop will shit on any Mac in the same price range.

Never had a problem with my galaxy phones. Neither has anyone I know. Several of them have said they will never go back to their crappy Apple phones after switching. The one exception is a friend of mine cheaped out and bought an lg g2. That thing was a piece of junk, almost worse than his iphone.
