Ideally a new core support is the best way to go but I've been told it's an intesive and expensive endeavor

 

Just got done switching my 04 to a 98. My CS was damaged so I bought a 98 to install. It is a lot of work! Many, many spot welds needed to be drilled out then the new CS welded in. I recommend just enlarging the light sockets on your original. Be aware that the marker lights on earlier models are separate from the grill. The later models they are part of the grill. The opening in the fenders for marker lights are a bit different. I was able to make mine work, but they are not held in in the original fashion.

 

Re-did my top shock mount, drove it to a friends house 20 miles away for a bbq,

then drove home in front wheel drive cause the rear end got word i was replacing her gears and apparently wasn't happy about it.
I think I lost either the spiders or the ring gear itself has come loose. poppity pop all the way home.

I had a few small rust spots on my white truck, and put some Loctite rust stopper on them, then used touch up paint. You can see some small bumps from my sloppy application, but it stopped the rust from spreading. Put it on clean and it'll look great.
