Ok... so here's the deal. I got an offer. Long story short, I didn't like the company at all. I've been at enough jobs to know what to look for and I could tell pretty easily from talking to them that my life at this job would likely be hell. That was my gut feeling.

At the same time, I have a pretty likely job coming in from a company I really like a lot. Lastly, I have another interview at a company Monday. My UI covers my bills and I have 10 months of it left. So I'm not hurting.

But... I can't help that I'm being stupid because it seems nuts to turn down a job- any job, in this economy. Then again, if I did that and the other job came though, I'd be stuck.

Losing lots of sleep over this...

Yeah... I know. If I were in dire financial straits, I'd probably take it.

I kinda know what you mean. I got offered a job last month paying decent money with a chef that a lot of people said was really good to work for. But the way he handled the job offer was the most unprofessional thing I've ever experienced.

I didn't take it, and I think you've probably done the right thing by not taking the job...even though "gfdgdfgdfg" would have looked amazing on some business cards!

I just turned down a job this week. It was a tough call, but I knew I wouldn't be happy doing that job and I would be away from home a lot. Your better off waiting to see if you get the other job. You gotta do what makes you happy.

Thanks for the replies guys. Makes me feel a lot better. They say your gut feeling is usually the correct one. Hopefully the other 2 jobs will come through. If not- I bet anything I'm going to be kicking myself over turning this one down. I have to decide in the next several days.

Sounds pretty clear to me. I understand the strained economy and all, but with one job offer....and 2 other possibles floating in....sounds like you have options. It's one thing to let the economic slow down affect you, but it's another thing to let it completely direct your life. Think of it this way, if you took this job now....then you end up hating it like you already have figured out (sounds like you have a pretty solid perspective on things) - then you'll likely want to quit from there and look for an alternate job. I would think that'd be a harder road to travel than just stay where you are (not hurting), and focus on getting the job you'd rather have. Put your energies into going after those better opportunities - you'll thank yourself.

It's silly to pass up a job in this economy IF you've got no other options. You have 10 months of UI left, and you've got TWO more prospects comming immediately.

I turn it down and hope one of the other two works out. If one doesn't, you've got time.
