Lexus GX too...of course it & the 4Runner share significant parts. I believe, though it doesn't seem so, that the Lexus LX & Toyota Land Cruiser are classified as mid size according to the EPA.

I don't consider the GX and LX because they're both "luxury" SUVs. If you want to consider luxury SUV then there are a handful of body on frame mid size SUV still available, the LR LR4 and MB G-Wagon. I didn't know the Land Cruiser was still classified by the EPA as mid size, not sure how that is, the 200 series is massive.

Oh ya, since he didn't stipulate I just threw the Lexus products in. I actually see some older, obviously used, lifted versions (mostly the LX) around town and some them look pretty sweet.

I forgot all about the LR4 & bad ass MB G series. I'd smile if one was parked in my garage.

How about the Dog Durango, did it swap to unibody?

The durango is unibody, shares the structure as MB GL, which are both stretched versions of the MB ML and JGC.

Left over from the DCX days?

I remember the Chrysler 300/Dodge Charger were based on the MB E class at some point...think the Challenger is off those chassi too...

I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee (WJ)... The last of the solid axle GC's and it was unibody. I beat the hell out of that thing and I never head issues with the 'frame' or body and I modded it somewhat heavily. The unibody does still have what would be considered frame rails, but they are more difficult to weld to, so that's not friendly to the heavy modders. Mine had long arm suspension on it so we had to weld on new mounts and they did hold up just fine. Now the engine and tranny, that's another story and why I quickly dumped that car.
