Ya, I'd only get a Croc if I owned my own house so I could build a full size walk-in enclosure in the backyard. Columbian Tegus lol, ya no comment :p

I've had wild canebrakes that were more docile than a CB Columbian

3 dogs and 4 birds.....There was a time when I didn't want the birds. My wife INSISTED we get ONE. So we got "Jeni", a Jenday Conure (much like a sun conure) Jeni took to me and became "my bird". So the wife wanted ANOTHER bird. We got Penny, a Pineapple Conure, who became "My Bird"....So we got Eme, an emerald colored Green Cheek Conure....who became "my bird".....So we got a FORTH bird, Nandy, a big ol' happy go lucky Nanday Conure, who FORTUNATLY became "Our bird".....

The birds LOVE the dogs. All 4 have learned the dogs names, and throw pieces of papaya out of their cages to get the dogs to pay attention to them.

That's too funny! I've never met a bird that I thought would be worth having as pet but an intelligent enough one could be cool. Do they have much personality outside of the general traits for their species?

Only this group would appreciate this. I got a ton of flack on Instagram because I didn't kill it. I sat and watched this girl for 30min. One of my favorite snakes ever

The Conures are LOADED with personality. And VERY intelligent too. Jeni, our Jenday is like a watchdog. She "protects" me. She will try to run our dogs away when I pay too much attention to them. You have to use some discretion with what you say or do around 'em. They'll pick up on all sorts of things. Our Pineapple learned to cough and sneeze last winter when my wife had the flu. You'd swear there was someone in the house dying of a cold when she gets started! A friend has a Sun Conure that learned to imitate the sound of a fart..... Our Nanday is an escape artist. No matter how I rig the doors to her cage, she'll figure out a way to get it open. Then she goes to the cage where we keep Jeni and open her door. The pair will then got pull the lid off the can where we store their food and start throwing bird seed all over the floor.

Having birds is a lot like having kids.....You have to "birdproof" the house.....at least the part where the birds can get to.

If they were to somehow make their way outdoors, would they know to come back or would they wander off?

If they get out, most likely they are gone. Many bird owners have their wings clipped so their birds won't fly away. I prefer they can fly, but we take great precautions to make certain they don't get out. It's possible to train 'em to come when called, but it's a risk I won't take.

I would like to at some point own a Conure or two but I am terrible about keeping cages/doors/windows properly secured. I would be devastated if mine flew away.

I just discovered this thread! I've got a couple out of the norm pets - a green tree python and a tarahumara mountain dwarf boa! I also just put a down deposit on a yellow ackie monitor. He hatches in 3 months I can't wait. This is my first monitor so i'm doing my research now and getting a sick show cage setup for him

I doubt it. That kind of surgery is insanely expensive and terrible for the animal. Any experienced reptile owners knows the risks and how to handle hot snakes

That takes some balls. I have a lot of experience with snakes and I used to keep rattle snakes I'd catch from the desert. 4 years not one issue, then one day the little bastard just out of no where snapped at me and got me. Ran to hospital. Sucked. No more hot snakes for me.

Cobra's are so amazing but I'd have to have the venom removed. Too scary.

I want a Gaboon at some point. I love and respect hot snakes but now isn't the time for them for me

Here's my buddy 'Bird' she's a 24 year old Congo African Grey parrot she's very smart and not much trouble, she talks when she wants sez what she wants :). I remember one time she was playing with my wife and I, she bit the crap out of the wife the wife started screaming OUW..OUW..OUW. So for several weeks after that every time Holly walked by her cage Bird would scream OUW..OUW..OUW...... OUW..OUW..OUW. It made Holly mad as hell, but quite funny.

my girlfriend's grandmother had that same bird, and since her grandmother is from Scotland, the parrot has a heavy Scottish accent sometimes when she decides to talk haha
