Taco-2013s build. Good,bad and the ugly.

After man hours of reading on TacomaWorld I decided to start my build with a suspension lift. I picked the Fox Ultimate Suspension kit from toytec.

The good.
-Complete kit
-High quality
-Truck rides lifted at 3 inches better then it did at factory height
-Truck was aligned back to factory specs
-Fox sent out the missing parts overnight for sat delivery to get my truck going.

The bad.
-Rear shocks shipped from fox with wrong lower bushing mounts
-Instructions for my year and make were incorrect for rear shocks
-Coil over is very hard to adjust on the truck

The ugly.
Mounting the rear shocks as shown on the internet and instructions caused the rear shock reservoirs to make contact with the rear axle. This caused the braided line to kink. As of right now it does not look like any damage was done. Part of this problem is my fault as I should have checked for clearance. I also removed the overload leaf which I believe may have given me the extra clearance I needed.

The 2nd issue I had was with a fitting. While I was adjusting the height on the passenger side coil over the upper an fitting came loose. I lost a small amount of shock fluid before I quickly tightened the fitting back up. I was surprised this fitting even came loose. I have an email out to fox asking if anything needs to be done about this fluid lost.

Some tech info.

Started at 20 inch in the front and 21.5 ish in the rear
After install 23 inch in the front and 24 inch in the rear

It took 13 full turns on the front coil overs from out of box settings to get 3 inches of lift.

Installing rear setup. After having clearance issues with rear axle the shock was turned away from the axle and towards the tire.

Front setup. You can also see the before and after adjustment on the coilover.

Bad picture but best I can do on the current location of the rear shocks.

Any feedback about rear shock locations and front shock oil levels would be great. Thanks for looking.


I added some foot area lighting. Wired them up to the dome light so they dim down when they shut off. Thanks for the write up tacomaworld.

Did you have any rubbing on the tires before lift? Tires look good stuffed in there!

 

The front tires rubbed on the mud flaps turning in reverse all the time.

 

Other than that no issues huh?

 

No other issues on or off road.

 

Do you have any pics of the rear? I am torn between these wheels and the TRD pros. I heard these stick out a TAD.

265 or 285 for the KO2's? Im running 285/70/17 BFG KO2 and I had to trim some plastic, remove the fender flares as well as take the mud flaps off to avoid rubbing

 

I'm running 265 70 17. I didn't want to deal with all the mods involved to run 285s. I'm sure your 285s look really nice though.
