In 2005 Nissan puts the 4.0 engine in the Frontier with 265hp @ 5600 and 284tq @ 4000 (impressive numbers, right?)... You don't think people were saying the same thing as you about the Tacoma in 2005 when they just looked at the NUMBERS. Have you driven a Frontier? Definitely not as peppy as the 2nd gen Tacoma or as quick 0-60 and the same towing capacity. STOP LOOKING AT THE EFFING NUMBERS!!!

Agreed. Gearing, weight change, transmission will make a big difference too. Dyno #'s only mean so much.

If I wanted huge displacement I'd get a full size.

What will tell the tale is when the truck is in the hands of members. If it's a good truck, we will know.

BlueT is working for Chevy and running a super secret smear campaign against Toyota's 2016 Tacoma. I know this because a reliable source told me.

I dont own Government Motors cars... never did, unlikely ever will. (Unlikely) because Diesel Colorado may be the only Diesel small pickup in US so there is that temptation again...

I think after 5 or 6 reviews we will get a good idea. New owners are not likely to admit they don't like something they just bought. TFL will test it on the Ike Gauntlet. The Colorado did surprisingly well with the "minivan" v6. Towed 5,000 up the pass at or exceeding the speed limit. No reason the Tacoma can't match that.

Then why are you acting like an ass hat? Hate on the Tacoma if you want, but at least wait for it to be released so you know what you are hating on.

With arguments such as 4 main crank bearings and Engine HP = # Trucks with engine / [(#Cars with engine x # Vans with engine) + Honda ridgeline], its hard to conclude anything other than you are being paid to act this stupid.

I just don't understand why BlueT has not folded his tent and moved to the Colorado forum or maybe Tundra forum. Obviously the new Tacoma won't suit your needs. Why devote so much energy into a truck you will never buy? We get that you don't like Toyota's direction, but why does it occupy so much of your time then?

Or you can just wait to see what is actually released and not make things up just to hate on a truck. You are free to hate whatever you want but at least allow Toyota to release the truck before hating. Or hate on what's already been released, not on 4 crank shaft bearings and HP that hasn't been "officially" released. I hear the lack of power seats is a popular "hating on" topic. Go do that.

Or am I making too much sense again?

now....what kinda fun would this thread be without the comments of the naysayers.....seriously, have any of you gotten truly pissed? I mean....I think it has been fun. I'm gonna buy a new 4runner and swap the front on the 2016 Tacoma that is secretly sitting in my garage....

    Yes

Only thing that is the same displacement plus uses Atkinson...might be a different engine than what is going int he Tacoma...but for mpg guesstimates, good enough for now.

Yeah, I don't think it will be any different...they are always a little underpowered, and have less mpg. They have relied on their reliability reputation, which many of us old timer Toyota owners keep on telling ourselves..."ok...ok...might have to give up a couple things, at least it will last me a long time"

yeah, I am looking at the Colorado, but mang...I don't know if I could leave Toyota...they have treated me really well over the years.

My issue too. My '02 just keeps running and looking great. I feel obligated to get another Tacoma. Reliability after owning 10 domestic lemons really means a lot to me now.

Over 300K on mine, still running great...I mean it is kinda shocking, how well it still feels...still feels tight...compare to my buddy's Jeep XJ with 100K...that thing feels like it is ready to fall apart.

I know a lot of us are over thinking all of the Tacoma's specs and what not, it is going to fine for majority of the buyers. Including myself.

The only thing that peaks my interest in the Colorado diesel is the mpg, I don't know if I can trust it run it up to 300K like what I do with Toyotas.

Yeah my '02 still feels and drives the same way as it did when I bought it used in 2008. Never garaged but paint still sparkles, no cracks on dash, all the electronics still work. I'd sure like better power and mpg but reliability is my #1 concern. So far, Toyota has delivered on that for me.

Clearly this is the best part of 2016 Tacoma.. becaue
Does it have most power in its class ?
    No
Does it have most payload in its class?
    No
Does it have most towing capacity in its class?
    No
Does it have best fuel economy in its class?
    No
    Is it ugly?

2nd Gen didn't have any of those things either. How do you know the fuel economy already?
