confused on backspacing

    4.00" bs vs 4.50" bs, which will be better to avoid rubbing, and which size puts the tire further out the wheel well?

    A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
    The smaller the BS the more is sticks out and away from the UCA. So 4" will stick out more then a 4.5".

    And the 4.5" BS would be better against rubbing. On a 8" wheel, its about ideal, on a 9" wheel a 5" BS is good. :cool:

    so would it be ok to run a 17x9" rim with 4.625" backspacing?

    so what I'm gathering is that a 17x9" at 4.625 would be better than one at 4.53"

    I'm basically trying to decide between the moto metal 951 17x9 4.53bs -12mm offset and the eagle 185 17x9 4.625bs -8mm offset

    yeah, i commented about that in the other thread you posted. The Eagle's are probably a better bet for less rubbing.

    I get rubbing after installing new wheels and tires. I think its just hitting the plastic mud flap. What I can't figure out is that it only rubs in reverse. The wheels are in the identicle position in forward or reverse but it only rubs in reverse:goingcrazy:

    i think the sport is 17x7.5" 5" bs and -30mm offset, maybe offroad is similar except for the diameter...

    Wheels are American Eagle 18" X 9" 061 series.

    Tires are Michelin LTX AT2 275/65r18

    lift is 2 1/4" REDILIFT which turned out to be a 3" lift. Might have settled by now

    here are the wheel specs:
    0612-996618x9Super Finish Black6 on 5.5 + 6 mm offset 5.174 BSM 3226-062100 lbs.33.6 lbs.

    I got this at one point too.... theres a little bump in the front of the passenger side fender liner. Thats the culprit. Either trim it off, or heat it up and form it a little to get rid of the rub.:cool:

    yeah, didnt make sense to me either that it would only be in reverse, but thats what I found it to be.:confused:
