totally agree, give the guy $100 and sign a purchase agreement (just a paper stating you intend to buy it at the agreed price) so it means he doesn't have to look for a buyer and you don't hang in limbo wondering if he will sell it to a relative or anyone else by the time he finds the new car. it obligates him and you, so both of you benefit from this. it also kinda puts him in a position where its not easy for him to say "screw it im keeping the 4runner" and he also cant go up on the price later on.

but do you have the loan pre-approved already? that's the key, you need to do this. all they need is the vin number for the loan to be processed then you just tell them when you need the check when the time is right. the will only loan you up to the book value but that's not an issue since he isn't asking over that. if you cant get the loan pre-approved then you cant buy it anyway.

If you buy that new 4Runner it will be covered in mud before you get it home!!

Jen I agree with you time for the Honda to be put to rest!!

It is one thing to drive something because of an economic reason when you can`t stand it time for it to go.

    Hey there TW!!

Both woke up thinking, let's get that 4Runner!!! :D

Gonna call the guy again today and get the VIN (forgot to ask yesterday) then let him know we talked and are serious about it, and might offer a "deposit/retainer" type thing, thanks  to your suggestions. If nothing else, like you all mentioned, it could at least guilt him into selling to us if another buyer pops up, or if he starts feeling unsure about getting rid of it as he searches for his replacement. He did say someone at his work was interested in it, so seems like we should test drive it whenever he's open to it, then try to get something in writing/some kind of $ changing hands right away. Then when he finds his replacement, we can do the loan paperwork and finalize everything. Civic should hold up a few more weeks/months even if nothing is done to it, plus there is a small possibility that Eric may have talked me into repairing it anyway. :anonymous:

    Whaaaaaat !!!!!!!!!

:typing: busily pricing bus ticket to oregan and googling closest gas stations near Jen's house to burn that frickin civic to the ground :bananadead:

if you think the taco turned into an out of control money pit, just watch how fast your money goes up in smoke as you get yourself trapped into spending over $1000 on the civic. as soon as you start fixing things, you always need to fix more and the reasoning is, because you already put $300 into it so you have to spend another $200, then you already spent $500 so you have to spend the extra $200 for the other shit it needs, then now that you already spent $700 it doesn't make sense not to spend the last $300 you need to spend to get the last of it fixed, and BOOM, your spent $1000 and you will still need a set of new tires for it because now it runs good.

remember that old movie about the "wopper" nuke missile command computer starting world war 3? the motto of the movie was "the only winning move is not to play the game" DONT DO IT, don't play the game because you cant win.

if you want to keep the civic put gas in the tank and add oil, don't do anything else to it but drive it until the wheels fall off then leave it right thee on the side of the road with the keys in the ignition.

Just talked to the 4Runner guy again!! :) We are going to his house tomorrow at 8pm to test drive it!! :burnrubber:

He gave us the VIN too, so we're thinking we'll pay for a Carfax membership (unless someone on TW is already signed up? ;)).

After that, it's time to rehash the Civic debate....:argue::duel::smack::infantry::fenforcer::rant::angrygirl::annoyed::violent:

I have no use for C.F.. it's a used car. If you like it after driving, you can't get much info from c.f.. run the VIN thru the Toyota owners website to see what went on with it at the dealer.

If someone has a membership, good deal, but I won't, nor have I ever paid to use that service. Save that money for a bumper.

call the finance company and give them the vin and get the car loan ok'ed right now, its not done and your not obligated to the loan until you actually tell them "ok do it" and request the check but they can pre-approve the loan so you know its already approved and there will be no delays in instantly getting the check for purchasing it when you are ready for it to happen.

keep in mind, when he is ready to sell, he isn't going to wait a day or two to see "if" your loan gets approved. if you aren't pre-approved, you may lose the 4runner to someone else because you didn't do this :frusty:

if you already did this let me know and i'll shut up about it, (yes I know, its the weekend still, give you a chance to do it) but just because you expect to get the loan and they should give you the loan, and there is no reason for them NOT to give you the loan, it still doesn't mean they "will" give it to you.

if they say no, then you have to scramble to find another lender and the seller will give that 4runner to the first guy with money in his hand, deposit or no deposit. I have seen many people with good credit be denied loans because the bank or credit union or whatever gave weird as reasons like they had too many new loans outstanding that month and you need to wait till the first of the month for the loan and other strange reasons like that to delay or even to deny you

Whaaaa? Is that honestly how you picture me?????? Sorry to burst your bubble, but nope. Not even close.

Fine, occasionally I drop phones on my face when I am trashed.

Actually, I've been debating the car stuff, get ready for one of my classic way too long posts, coming soon. :D I know, I know, the anticipation is now killing all of you. Everyone try to contain themselves. :D

Argh. Confused. Thinking a 2nd Taco might be better for us than a Runner. Too much to say to explain why!!! But that is where my head is at the moment.

Still test driving the 4Runner tonight, but starting to have some doubts.

What's going on with you all today? :)

Dammit! Ran out of deck screws!

This was not a real, fun project in 90 degree, hi humidity. Still need to build railing and steps. That should not be so back breaking.

How you southern people work in this heat, I have no idea. I put just shy of a gallon of water thru me and have no desire for anything else! Amazing!.

by 9am your socks are squishing with sweat, by 11 am your underwear is wetter then your shirt and your pants feel 20 lbs heavier because they are soaked, by lunch you leave a puddle of water anyplace you sit.

I literally stop eating lunch in summer because you cant keep it down, I just go for snowballs or 32 oz big gulps and we keep a 5 gallon igloo full of gator-aide nearby at all times. nobody works after lunch, we just kinda wrap things up we started that morning and get things ready for the next days project.

now that's a normal work area on the ground, I did a/c work so I got the pleasure of working in attics all day in new construction so add another 15 degrees hotter to the temps and if I had service calls w only do attics before 9am or after 3pm

That's pretty descriptive of my day. It does feel nice after a shower just running around in shorts.
