RCI Skid Plates

Does anyone have any experience with RCI Metalworks Skid Plates? If not-suggestions on what's best? I'm looking to install the front, transmission and transfer case skids. Thanks

 

There may be skid plates as good as RCI Metalworks, but I don't think there are any better, fit & finish perfect. Great people to do business With. jmop

Also did you purchase the little valve that installs into the oil pan to avoid a spill when changing the oil ?

 

Aluminum? Yes, This is 1/4" Aluminum, I am not what anyone would consider an "off roader" but I do travel some remote roads, I am very confident it will take about as much punishment one could throw at it, (a quality piece). No I haven't purchased the "Fumoto"Valve, but I plan to, I have been just a little skeptical of them, but after doing a lot of reading & with the protection of the skid plate I am going to install one, even though the skid plate drops very easily, I think the valve will make it very simple, jmop

 

Thanks for the info! I was skeptical of both the aluminum and the valve but like you I won't hardcore off road my truck as I want it to last but I will use the truck when the need arises!

 

Haven't used any of their products, but am friends with one of their fabricators. I can say their products wont fail due to lack of quality in production.

 

I have the front and tranny skids on. Great, sturdy product. Just did an oil change with the skid on, no problems, no mess.

 

Did you purchase the steel or aluminum?

 

Steel. 3/16" I believe.

 

Another +1 for RCI. I have their sliders and they are incredibly well built. They are bolt-on and all the holes, hardware and angles fit perfectly.

Do the sliders have any flex to them? Or are they solid enough that you comfortable resting the weight of the truck on them without any damage?

 

I want the aluminum but I'm worried that they may not be as durable as the steel??

 

I have the steel ones. Without drilling holes in the frame, RCI says the sliders work well as moderate protection and steps. With a couple holes drilled, they can be used as hi-lift jack points. They have pics showing it, and I believe it. I'd trust it as a jack point as is, without the extra holes drilled. If you want to go a step further, you can have the sliders stitch-welded to the frame, which makes it easy to remove them and seriously lessens any potential damage to the frame.

Not sure if you could stitch weld aluminum to steel though...

 

Good deal! I'm leaning towards the steel skids all the way back- are the lower control arm skids needed? I'm not off roading very much mainly mud- but some trails with rocks few and far between. Since I think they're only around $100 or so dollars I may just go ahead and pick them up.

 

All depends on what you do. Sure, the more protection the better provided weight and expense aren't an issue. If you're looking at ordering a lot of stuff, give them a call. I live nearby and bought the sliders in person, they're great guys and easy to work with.

I have the IFS, tranny & Tcase skids in 1/4" aluminum and would go that route again if I was to rebuild my taco. I was concerned with strength as well. I have beat on them pretty good in the rocks and they have held up fine. I have lots of gouges and a couple of dents that are an inch deep. Besides reduced weight, it is nice not to worry about rust and repainting.

 

I forgot the add that there is a cut out that allows access to the oil drain plug. You can drop the IFS skid and leave the other two on to service the front diff & Tcase
