The gen 3 Tacoma looks like the gen 2 got punched in the face and swelled up. I have to learn to accept it I guess.

I think you got that backwards, old engines were timing chain. Which has been bullet proof for years. However, the draw back of timing chain is that when you have highrev engine timing chain starts doign something similar to this effect...
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Agluv4iHx14
That will eat your timing guides, idlers pretty badly and pretty fast. Even so since Toyota at some point switched to plastic timing guide shoes. (Somebody here had to replace them)
So on slow rotating engine like 1GR timing chain is best idea ever (you want have to touch timing guides for atleast 250 000 miles, on Diesel Timing chain is best idea ever and timing belt is stupid because nobody is going to rev Diesel. Than again my Tdi had timing belt too.
However, timing chain on high rev engine is flat out retarded.

If you need a high rev platform, buy a rotary.

Correct tool for correct job....like, if you are towing, buy a full size diesel....

Too late. You said idler pulley. Big difference.

And as far as timing chain vs benefit, the only benefit belt gives over chain is cost of manufacture, ease of maintenance, low noise and ease of cam adjustments for professionals that build race engines.

Chains do just fine in high RPM engines.

Ha ha...I am thinking the same.

I dunno, this pic did something to me...and I don't even like the stumpy bed DC's.

It has really grown on me.

Where do you see Idler pulley in my text? I wrote Idler... ... and it is idler...
You are the one that added pulley in your head..
You are wrong on the belt vs chain.
Thats why I linked Youtube from Mythbusters because its the same effect.
Mythbusters explain that better than I could.

I thought the biggest difference between chain and belt was the type of engine, interference (belt) vs non interference (chain).

errbody just loves picking on BlueT 'cause he isn't all unrefined and stuffs. I bet he doesn't have a single post that is grammatically correct. Not too big of a deal to me. He very well may have some valid points. He is, what he is. I just leave it at that, and enjoy the ride. I don't have the formal knowledge, time, or energy to dissect everything someone says and then throw in condescending corrections or opinions. I have gone that route, a couple times on this forum, to very little avail. One instance came out well, with both sides stepping back to actually figure out the other's point of reference and interwebz hand shakes ensued. That specific person has posted quite a bit in these 3rd gen threads, and we generally get along. I think we both leave well enough alone.

If you think BlueT is an idiot, or just simply don't like him, please block him. It kinda seems like people are just waiting for him to respond so they can bag on him. The constant banter back and forth I fear will get these threads locked, and quite honestly, I'm flat out bored at work and need these comical threads to pass the time.
