What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Plasti-dipped my grille and the trim around the headlights. Bumpers and badges are next no more chrome.

No. The stock one weighs 30 lbs or something. Very light and easy to manipulate. At least my 98 one is

 

Fernando on here put a coat of satin black rattle can on top of the Bed liner. It seams to be holding up really well.

Yes. Heat up the entire piece, then pour water over the stud to shrink them. I usually weld a nut to the stud to make it easier.

There was a thread a while ago that showed a comparison (I believe done perhaps by the military) of different compounds for loosening locked nuts/studs/whatever and the winner by far both on effectiveness and cost was a 50/50 mix of ethanol and ATF! Also, yes, locking 2 nuts together is a good call. As far as heating the pipe and cooling goes... anyone tried a propane torch and liquid nitrogen? I have both handy and a desire to get creative...



edit: should read acetone not ethanol. brain-shart!

 

I think if you heat it up with the torch then rapidly cooled it with LN2 the pipe would crack or split from the extreme temperatures

 

How about LN on the stud with a hot pipe? I'm envisioning success here as long as things aren't too rusty..

Also, I'm not talking seriously heating up the pipe, I'm talking teasing a flame along it to get the metal up in the 120-140 degree range. Only an idiot would put the pipe up above 200.. that is where you get into the lower reaches of cold-tempering and forever change the particular qualities of the alloy.

 

You only want to cool the stud. Ice or ice water will work. Never tried liquid N2. Kinda curious if it works without making the stud brittle.

I think it would make the stud brittle but that's just my thinking. I never played with ln2 either would love to but don't have the resources or equipment

 

When replacing the timing belt, is it necessary to replace the cam seals if they are not leaking? I'm trying to see how much it would cost if I just bought all the parts myself and then magically found time to do it in the next two weeks.
