Beach Vacation Gear Help

Hey TW,

I will be heading to the OBX for vacation. Never driven on the beach before since relocating from Canada. What do I need in terms of Recovery gear? Any tips/tricks/ essential equipment suggestions are appreciated. I was considering the

ARB CKMA12 but it might not be in the budget if other things are more important.

Currently I have a 3" lift with 33" Nitto trail grapplers, weather tech floor mats and a front recovery bar from Mobtown Offroad (awesome product btw). I have mostly used my rig for light offloading to access hunting and fishing spots thus far.

Also I am trying to not spend a fortune but if it's essential and will be used often for years to come I will spend the money.

I think the most important thing is just to air down the tires...so that

CKMA12 might be your most useful tool.

 

In case you didn't know, the first thing you will need is a permit to drive on the beaches...
they can be obtained at several places down there.

Watch out for sea turtle nests if you are going now.

 

I just drove on the 4x4 beach in June down in Corolla. I didn't need a permit or anything. Definitely air down your tires. I just have a 3 inch lift and some A/Ts and saw tons lifted trucks getting stuck that didn't air down their tires.

 

So if you're going to air down your tires, you'll want a portable compressor to pump them back up.

 

Yup, like others have said. Air down and you wont have any issues.

• You'll also want a receiver hitch d ring and a shackle in case you do need to get unstuck or help someone get unstuck (assuming you have the receiver).

• Small wood board ,3ftx3ft should suffice if you need to jack up
• For deflating I got the arb e-z deflator, its a bit pricey but great at airing down.

And most importantly, beer, lots of beer.

 

shovel... also, air down your tires to 20 psi. I would also recommend you turn off all traction control. I find wheel spin/ momentum to be your friend. traction control fights wheel spin, and I had a hard time until I completely disabled traction control. I hold the button for 5 seconds.

Last thing, if you get stuck, don't spin till you get stuck to the frame. Take a breath, and air down tires more. aired down tires, a tow rope, and patience are your friends.
