Yeah, after lots of research I felt like waiting for this was the right way to go. Helix fitment wasn't ideal and the other snorkel seems to have quickly fallen out of favor with many.

Might you be referring to me?

I was out of the country for March/April and super busy here in the shop and at events since then :D

I do know through conversations with ARB that Safari Snorkel has continued to push back delivery on these but I've been too wrapped up in other projects to get an update. I'll resolve that :D

Might be the same Taco that they have been teasing us with since Feb.

The http:SS135MOD actually came from a 2.7/2.8L turbo diesel, which rely on legit amounts of airflow.

That said, it's yet to be an issue for the hundreds of installs including many super-charger installs. I've personally spent thousands of miles behind the wheel of a super-charged Tacoma (both 3.4 & 4.0) using the Safari Snorkel (modified Hilux/SS135MOD in the case of the 2nd Gen), zero issues, zero airflow or lean conditions, zero problems including sea level, high elevations, etc.

100% the same truck. Same truck as I posted the SEMA pictures of on page 1 of this thread.

I'll work on an update from my ARB USA & Aus contacts. In the meantime, if anyone is in dire need of a snorkel fitment, we'll keep assembling the SS135MOD kits until folks quit ordering in favor of the too-be-released model.

Was tired of waiting, and almost hydro locked in Kentucky about two weeks ago. Seriously puckered hard! Dumped out rocks and mud out of my intake tube.

I would be more worried about a short or electrical issue than a hydrolock if you plan to cross water.

Called and spoke to Matt in ARBUSA marketing this AM. He says that Safari is currently in the USA testing a second iteration on Tacos. There isn't a definitive launch date, but he told me to encourage everyone to send an email to sales@arbusa.com and make an inquiry about the snorkel. Safari, according to him, seems to be most responsive to product inquiry. So more folks making inquiries is better...at least that's what the marketing guys says. I asked him about a launch date and he had no firm answer. I asked him why they ran the advertisement and he told me it was essentially their way of pushing Safari. That's what I learned. Perhaps someone with better connections can share something more...

I have a AirFlow great product and it's attached to a TRD CAI looks just right on the truck and no problems what so ever. I know one of the guys on TW was a vendor for them when I got mine I had no problems got it in a week, week and a half. I have not been keeping up with it so I don't know what happend to them.

Wasn't really planning on taking it very deep. Kind of one of those things that just happened. Had already been through the area before, but due to higher rainfall amounts this summer and finding a hole water came up over my hood. I understand about electrical issues, although that didn't seem to be an issue. As I said there was mud and rocks in my intake, this was something that had to be fixed. I have been worried about it since I have removed the fender liner. I've been getting all kinds of crap in there.

This may be a little off topic, but I have a couple of questions for those with snorkels that go into high water.
    1. Have you also raised your differential/trans breather tubes?
    2. What about the fresh air intake in the cowl? Does having Recirc on suffice, or is more protection needed?
    Thanks!

    1) those should be done by anyone crossing water, yes
    2) Cowl, ie hood scoop? Airflow is a negative there so at speeds you might starve your engine. Recirc is only for interior fan, not engine intskr

Yes, the cowl, where windshield and good area meet. I ask, because I'd water gets up on the hood, it could get into the fresh air intake for the heater/AC. I know there are drains at the ends, but a lot of water could overwhelm the drains. If water gets on top of the recirc air door, it could leak in, or will when the vent is opened. Just curious.

You would think all the hilux orders to the states would clue them in (considering there aren't very many hilux here) to the interest. And for every one of the hilux ones sold there are probably one or two who want a snorkel but either go with another brand or just don't do it. Just my thoughts.

I had extended the breathers long ago. I don't intend to cross water deep enough to go in to the cowl. If some got in there it would suck, but at least it wouldn't ruin the engine like the motor sucking in water through the intake.

Our SS135MOD kit is $409.50 + shipping. If we had 5+ wanting to do a group buy again (we did one back in 2012? here on TW), we could work out a discount. Perhaps $365 + ride and we make it easy with an orders open for 1 week, we of course bill separately and ship direct to customers.

Some thoughts on additional snorkel considerations in a Tacoma Magazine article I wrote here:
