Depending on the angle, these twins sometimes look alright in pics. In person, they look like complete shit. And the Colorado/Canyon interiors look like a last gen Malibu or something. Again, complete crap. GM has never, in my lifetime, designed a decent interior. They simply don't get it. And those commercials comparing their cars and SUVs to Range Rover and Lexus are a friggin laugh and a half.

+1 for interior comment. I actually kind of like the way the outside of the truck looks tho...

So it doesn't slam down. I have three kids and of they open my tundra gate it will knock them out. Plus it is down by the time you turn around to pick up whatever you are putting in.

I've never used one, so maybe I shouldn't judge it until I try it. Will it lower faster if you don't let go of it? I'm in and out of the bed a lot with gear, and a "slow" tailgate sounds terrible.

Ask yourself this. Are you going to pay $38k for a fully-loaded Z71 Colorado crew cab that's worth maybe $20k in about two years?

I think I'd rather buy a $38k fully loaded Taco TRDOR 4x4 that's worth maybe $32k in about two years.

i would buy 100 tacoma's before buying 1 gm product, even if it has a fancy diesel motor and all kinds of tech stuff.
the gm name is tarnished, and will be forever
i used to only buy gm until i got tired of pissing away money on a shitty product with no backing from gm on fixing things that should have never broke

Go check one out at a dealership. Ford, chevy, gm, and toyota (tundra) currently all have them. It's not super slow motion. Most come down quicker the first quarter of the rotation and then dampen to lower a little slower. If it really is a concern for you I am sure you could take the mechanism out.

I really hope Edmunds (or something similar) gets one of these for a long-term test. Right now on paper (only thing we have to go on) the diesel GM truck beats the hell out of the 3rd gen Tacoma and the only thing the Tacoma has going for it is potentially better reliability. I say potentially better because that has yet to be proven and 2016 will be the 1st model year...

Toyota better have an ace up their sleeve or they may very well lose a fair amount of market share.

Agreed, I will keep updated on long term reviews and tests. It will be interesting for sure. Most buyers buy numbers and the Colorado offers some great ones. The Colorado/Canyon has already been out for nearly a year so that is an extra year that GM has had for improvements to the existing chassis. I don't think this Duramax diesel and supporting emissions system will be a complete shit pile like the Ram ecodiesel offering.

If the MPG #s come back at 30+ and initial reviews are good then the twins will start taking huge bites out of the Tacoma sales. Sure there are some folks here who "would never own a GM product", but realistically you guys don't account for even a fraction of a percent of buyers.

Toyota better have something ready to answer it.

I dunno, diesel in the bigger trucks hold their value, might do the same for the Colorado. I have owned Toyotas for 25 years now, I am thinking about jumping ship. Sure QDR is a concern, but it is a brand new truck...most everything will be covered under warranty...if it gets too fussy dump it before the warranty runs out.

The diesel Colorado is almost exactly what I have waiting and looking for, gas mileage in the 30 range, awesome torque, and not bad styling...while the Taco is growing on me...the Collie doesn't make me cringe when I look at...believe I had to force myself to like the Taco.

No manual trans is a bummer though.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
    Same here.
I hate Toyota for making me more excited for Chevy than 2016 Tacoma... but 300 lb-ft of torque, 7700 LB of Towing capacity and almost 2000 Lb of payload and 30+ MPGs are very hard to pass.
Plus it sounds like 2009+ Tacomas will not get their frames replaced ever by Toyota (thank you NHTSA for your stupid ruling) So Chevy with problems or Tacoma with rotted frame in 9 years... seems like loss/loss regardless what you buy.

So the nearly 2000 lbs payload is true? I read the specs on the Chevy website and thought it was a misprint...if it is true makes me want it even more.

I would imagine there will be some, no manufacture is immune to it, not even Toyota.

While consumer reports gives rhe tacoma a bad rap for creature comforts it scores the best for reliability. If the colorado is anything like the silverado consumer reports says 97% below average reliabilty. That's just stupid

For what I use a mid size pick up for a gas engine fits the bill. The added cost of the diesel , expected higher maintenance costs, just does not excite me. I see why some would want a diesel. It just is not for me. I drive less than 6,000 per year. It will be interesting to see how Chevy and Nissan diesels hold up when they come out.

You guys realize we don't have a diesel engine in any of these trucks, right? It's just like the argument that we don't have 16 Taco yet.
