Let's compare buying costs. That 10K for both cars middle model will run that Accent for 8 years before the VW moves an inch.

    Bad comparison.

Oh, I do, but surely one of the very most beautiful states. From most accounts, live on the eastern side of the state, if you want to stay away from the bs, or further east into Idaho.

Well, it's basically a hybrid Yaris. If I needed a commuter vehicle and was looking to buy new that would be on the list.

Yeah, considering they are close enough in size. I've never liked VW for reliability, and after owning a Hyundai, I think it's fair to say they are close enough at best. I'd give the advantage to the Hyundai actually.

I think you must have an older Golf. Before they were Mexican nightmares. Electrical issues and clutch problems are now the norm on the VW line up. A few of my dutch customers own a few different VW models (Touareg, Golf/Rabbit, Jetta, Passat) and openly talk about trading them the moment the radio flickers, because shits about to hit the fan. Their older stuff was better.

    Sweet mother of God..
What does this has to do with original claim about MPG's ?
Simply focus on what Rock Lobster asked...

Accent vs diesel pickup mileage is unfair and idiotic comparison (for lack of better wold)
Similar sized Golf vs Accent is better comparison of MPG's
So are the MPG the same ?
    Yes
    No
    Maybe

Therefore do you think similar sized 2016 Tacoma will have better MPG than Diesel Colorado ?
    Yes
    No
    Maybe

I'm skeptical as to whether you even own a truck with that statement. It takes more time to lower your tailgate without slamming it, hands full doing that 'awkward crouch', than to let an assisted tailgate lower. Hauling your blow up dolls != 'in and out of the bed with a lot of gear' Stop kidding yourself. You need an Outback. If you have gear (say biking gear, camping gear, any activity gear), you arrive at destination, and repeatedly open and close your tailgate before being completely unloaded - you need a Rascal Scooter.

Yeah that sounds good in theory. I probably felt the same way too when I bought my Ecodiesel. Here's the reality:

You're paying hundreds per month for a vehicle you don't have in your possession while it's being worked on. It strands you, it ruins vacation plans, costs you time off from work. You get really mad that you may or may not have a lemon law case and decide you just suck it up and trade it in. In my case, my truck's MSRP to KBB (excellent) was down almost $15k in 8 months and 8k miles. No one pays MSRP for domestics but you're still likely to be upside down. There is no easy escape. I shit away thousands a month on hoodrich single guy shit and still can't stomach getting screwed on trade-in (hence having attorney, and in battle with FCA). Wait a year or two. The 2015 ecodiesel was just as shitty as the 2014, all the culprit parts are identical. They will begin to fail as they get enough miles... maybe wait 3 years.

You're one of those people I was talking about. Modern day diesels geared towards average consumers will not be a problem to start in lower temperatures. You are quite literally spouting diarrhea from your mouth that other diarrhea receptacles read and regurgitate.

Okay, so say you spend $38k on a well equipped 2.8L twin. It's a new motor, people are shitting their pants wondering if it's going to stand the test of time. And you think that average folks who buy these are going to quickly say "Well, $#%! my warranty, and I'm going to illegaly delete my truck"... do you know how much DPFs are? Are you aware that this is now more involved than using an OBDII->USB cable and a laptop and screwing with shit?

I'm not some guru on the topic but I do utilize common sense and own a $51k diesel paperweight lemon.

I 'm baling what you're swathing now. Yes, the new Colorado will have a similar comparison. The only place I see the new Colorado working better is if you plan to tow a travel trailer over 60 miles away a few times a year. Other than that the cost difference will be a wash.

Hey Caveman, and Mr. Potatohead - when you log in, do you purposely look for each others posts in order to argue about useless, unimportant issues that really don't need to be argued? Sometimes it's comical, while other times, it's just stupid sheott.

Do you wonder if your parents named you Terry because then they didn't have to think of another name in case you came out a girl?

    Probably the same answer.

Please and thanks. You're trying to justify your ownership of a truck by saying you haul a lot of gear, when it's pretty clear you don't. Does this sound familiar:

"I chose the Tacoma because it's more nimble off road"
-Drives well maintained fire roads twice a year, sheds a tear for every door ding

"I don't like power windows because it's one more thing to break"
-Has never had a power window failure, but has broken window cranks trying to retrieve Wendys food bags

"Power adjustable seats are for lazy people"
-Doesn't have a wife to share vehicle with, seat permanently in furthest position to accommodate fast food gut - no care of cramped friends in back seat because no friends

"Tailgate assists prohibit me from efficiently loading my gear"
-Throws Wendy's trash and dildos over side of bed anyway

I sense you may be letting this guy get to you...

BTW on the new Fords the slow gate kind of bugs me. It's like a slow opening power rear door on a SUV. Nice when it works great and you have a second, but when you want to get shit loaded quick it's slightly annoying.

Shit man, you got me. I don't have any gear or need a truck or 4x4 at all. What was I thinking?? You're amazing tho. One day, just one day, I might be as cool as you.

I can relate to your issues with that ecodiesel. I had a 2015 on order, but after following the forums and reading about the problems mainly around the cat system, I cancelled the diesel and went with the Hemi. good engine, been around years, and gets good mileage. I have had 2 Tacomas, both good trucks but not big enough for me right now...

These new mandated cat systems have caused problems on all the new generation diesels, and I agree with you that waiting 3 years for all the issues to be resolved is good advice.

Now, when I get to the point that I don't need a full size truck, I will most likely buy the new generation Tacoma. I have a 2014 rave and a 2012 prius along with my truck, so I do like the Toyota brand.

    Have fun with Ram:

    http://www.nbcnews.com/business/aut...y-back-hundreds-thousands-ram-pickups-n398911

In my 2500 with the Hemi the engine is fine. The constant electrical issues, which have stranded me twice now and left me without power anything including the speedometer, have been great though. The new front differential, which was apparently revamped after the issues described above along with everything else up front, gave out 10K KM's in which at least let me limp home. The transmission also takes a good solid 3 seconds to engage drive and clunks loud enough going into reverse to be heard in the office from our parking lot when I go to back in to my spot. Good thing it's heavy duty and the dealer says it's normal. I'm sure it will continue to get even better.

Quality trucks those Rams. 60K KM's, which is about 40K miles, and mine feels like a bamboo rickshaw about to burst into flames.

Sterdog, Mine is a 2015 and the buyback stuff stops at 2012. If I start having issues with the truck, I will have a different truck in my garage sooner rather then later...
