Looking for a work light that would mount in the bed/in the hitch that I could plug directly into the towing wire harness... Does anyone make something like this?

i don't think anybody straight up makes one.... but it wouldn't be hard to do. just need the connector for the 7-pin and whatever light you want to use wired to it.

Pin 4 for positive and pin 1 for ground.

carefull not to exceed the amp rating on that circuit.

Hmmm interesting... I'd probably run it to pin 3 (brown) so it would be constantly on when running lights are on?

Ha I didn't even see the price. They have tons online.

    Very easy to make also.

thats a possible way to go but then you would be adding to the amp load on that circuit. keeping it to pin 4 would also keep the overall electrical load as small as possible on the battery unless it was running.

come to think of it.... i think the pin is only energized with the truck on.

OP... you may consider just running a seperate (Manual switch) power and ground wire from the battery and add a quick disconnect for the work light.

After seeing that price and kinda wanting one for chilling outside etc. I'm gonna try and make one. I think some 2 square tubing and a paint roller stick or even a small aluminum flag pole welded would do nicely.

If you have the tow package couldn't you put a switch and jump the tow relay to energize the 12 feed? I know I don't use the 7 only 4. So it wouldn't or shouldn't be affected.

Might be easier to just make one. It seems that what you're looking for is so specific that whoever sells them might charge way too much for it (like the one seen above). What is the intended purpose for the light? Have you considered an LED pod/worklight on a swivel mount attached to the bedrail? Might work...

Thanks for finding all this guys!

Purpose for the light would be to flood a campsite for night set-up, cooking, etc. and to illuminate shit at night when backing up, as the stock reverse lights do next to nothing for me, especially now that I installed a Softopper. Also would be used for general nocturnal chillage

I was looking specifically for something that would plug in to the wire harness since I am by no means an electrician and didn't want to fool around with batteries. I'm currently using one of these little things but it would be nice to have the light on a stand and be able to have it swivel!

I started to got as far as spare ammocan, and a larger 12 volt home alarm backup battery, and telescoping rod. I couldn't think of any clean way to attach to hitch or how to mount.
