I have a 2011 Tacoma PreRunner 2WD TRD Sport. This model has the built-in temperature sensor/compass in the overhead unit. The temperature sensor has always worked great, usually updating measured temps in a matter of seconds, but this problem has repeated itself 2 days in a row now. I park in a garage at work, and when I left the outside temp was 99F, according weather.com on my phone based on my location. Also, the weather has been sunny, so no rain/moisture. The temp sensor read about 99F as I left work, but in about 15 mins of highway driving, the temp sensor climbed to 105F. I checked weather for my location from my phone and it was still 99F. The reading is way off. I believe warranty is coming to an end soon, would this be covered? Is there something else I should troubleshoot? Anybody else have this issue?

6*F different between some reading on your phone and the temp sensor id say is perfectly normal. Id believe the temp sensor over your phone actually. Best thing you could do would be to get a cheap outdoor temp monitor and mount it close to the stock one up front and see what their difference shows.... i bet its less than a degree.

Your 'local' weather station didn't change position, so it maintained the same static temperature. The location of your truck did change though, and a 6 degree difference is not large enough to remove the environmental factors from the question. The sensor is fine, mine often reads 2-3 degrees C higher than it really is outside under certain circumstances like being in traffic on a hot freeway or such.

Mine always reads high for a while after start-up no matter the weather or locations.

Historically, have the phone and truck been pretty similar?

I don't seem to have a temperature reading on my truck??? It's a 2015 Limited and shows the compass heading but I can't get it to show the temperature. Any ideas??? I read the owners manual but it only talks about how to calibrate the compass and says nothing about the temperature.

    Any help appreciated.

Mine always seems to read about 2 degrees Celsius warmer than the actual temperature.

Yes, historically, they have been more similar. Usually, no more than 2 degrees off after phone location settles. So 6 degrees was a bit more off than usual.

The local weather station did change position, because I took note of the temperature in 2 different zip codes along the way. I'm just used to it being 2 degrees off compared to the 6 degrees the past couple of days.

    also

some bullshit app on a phone has no idea what temp it is directly where you are

temps vary widely, and offical weather stations are usually on the roofs of airports
or up high and away from paved surfaces

My temperature gauge usually reads a little high at first start. I have found that the temperature is always within a degree of my wife's Accord.
