I have had my Taco sice new, approaching the 70k mile range. Looking for advice on upcoming maintenance, shocks, plugs are my ball joints getting close. Actually was reading on the speaker upgrade, it on the way!! Great info !!
What do you guys think I should be preparing to fix ??

Welcome. Just follow the service intervals in your owners manual and you will be fine.

Many here choose synthetic lubricants and have good results. If your truck receives hard use I think the synthetic lubes are more beneficial. Light duty use and regular Dino lubes will suffice.

What do you have? A 4.0 L or 2.7L? There was a thread on here that had scheduled maintenance for our Trucks but it was for both the I4 and V6 models combined, I made my own adaptation of that for my 2.7L and would be glad to send it to you if you would like!

 

I got a 2.7 with 41k on it and i'd love to see that chart you made if you could send it over that'd be awesome!!!!

If you've had your truck since new with 70k (assuming you have a V6) your spark plugs are due every 30k miles (so if you haven't changed them you are way past due). 4cyl are 100-120k IIRC. I would also grease all the zerks on the drive line (don't know if you have a 4x4 but you will have 2 extra if you do). Change the Rear Diff fluid. And switch to Synthetic Oil if your truck is used hard. Hell I baby my truck around and have used Synthetic since I bought it. Also a new cabin air filter (easy to get too) and air filter if you haven't changed it in a while. Just a few of the things that come to mind off the top of my head. I'm sure I missed a few.

On a side note... It seems to be the general consensus that the OEM oil filter is about the best that you can get for our trucks. Chris4x4 did a really good job comparing oil filters in a thread around here a while back.

On a second side note... TW will be the worst thing that will ever happen to you. Run while you still can. I swore that I would never do anything else to my truck after I bought it other than take the wheels and tires off my 2011 when I traded for the 13

Welcome to TW. My truck was also going to remain almost stock. Now im on my second tacoma. Had to buy a daily driver as well because when you add on weight the mpgs sucks.

Yeah. DOM sliders, seven 1/4 skid plates, front and rear plate bumpers, bedrack, tepui, mud terrains, full size spare, rood rack, larger leaf pack, group 31m battery, a fridge, and on board water really hurts the milage

I was wondering about my front end, it feels loose some times, wondering if ball joints are on the way out. Shocks, plugs are definitely on my list, any preferences.

I have the V6 4 x4

 

If your sparkplugs haven't been changed then you will have Denso's on one side and NGK's on the other (dunno why but they come from the factory like that). I recommend Denso's and if you go to the dealership they will give you Denso's to replace them. Shouldn't cost more than $20. Gap should be .039-.040 and torqued to 15 ft-lbs.

As far as the front end feeling loose it could be a number of things. Ball joints being one. You could always jack one side up and feel if there is any movement or play.
