Also.......Modern filters aren't "Paper", but rather a synthetic mesh. They not only filter better than any gauze filter out (smaller particles), but hold more dirt too.

My apologies Chris, honestly didn't realize You conducted the test yourself, I thought he was using your Mod status as a basis for the discussion.
I agree with you and already stated it, run what you want.

Sand in the vagina or sand in the engine. Neither is pretty.

    ...too much shit to list.
I threw not one, but two connecting rods and scored the rotors on my supercharger when I had my drop-in K&N ...nevermind the metric shit ton of water that got sucked into the intake...it's all the K&N's fault.
Now everyone knows someone! And it wasn't 4 degrees of separation like a friend's brother's sister's boyfriend. But a friend's brother's sister...is the same thing as just the friend's sister (because well...brother and sister and friend are all siblings), so we can cull that down to 3 degrees of separation...friend's sister's boyfriend.

Hold that thought.... mine is 263K miles and I just changed to SuperTech FullSynthetic oil at waltmart 17.89 \5q. and better to get the OEM oil and air filters. Also I changed to Valvoline Full Synthetic ATF transmission x5\5q 17.89 each at waltmart too. I don't trust mobil 1 since many indicated is not full synt. is blend. Supertech passed API standards so I'm good with that.

As long as the oil you buy is rated for your trucks standards you're fine, I use valvoline in my gears and Rotella in my engine.
I suggested mobile 1 as its praised around here and super easy to find, I used it for years with no issues as well.

I just got sold by the idea of synthetic is better and OEM parts are the recommended , so I found a full synthetic oil and ATF with good reviews and that fits my budget.:burnrubber:

It isn't that synthetic is "better" but its main advantage is that it doesn't need changed as often as conventional.

I've come to realize I do everything wrong with my truck.

That means that it is either by absolute happenstance, luck, or miracle that it still runs, drives, and it generally all still bolted together.

    Bilstein lift
Regular ol oil changed every 5000 miles
    K&N filter

I suppose it will probably spontaneously combust within the hour.

When it comes to my truck I dont seem to have a budget..I have had parts fail most likely to my negligence and over the 6 years I have owned it tried a lot of different things, I have a bit of a routine down now with the products I buy and how often I change them.

Purchased the truck with 110k miles
Now is sitting at almost 205k miles

Never had an major issues with he engine or transmission.

Since June 2009 I have replaced:
    Rear drive shaft
    Rear gears in third member
    1 battery
    crumbled shifter boots
    rear driver side hub seal.

All the parts I have upgraded for funzies:
    Doug Thorley headers
    Magnaflow muffler
air filters, back to stock Toyota in stock box with deck plate
38lbs fly wheel, race clutch.. back to oem grade stock flywheel and clutch
Tundra big brake kit off a 06+
    Fog lights
    front, rear bumpers
Tire carrier/rear bed cage for longer shocks
    Sliders

    Stuff that wore out:
on my 4th set of tires, second set of wheels
4 sets of spark plugs, dealer OEM Denso
    1 set of plug wires
    battery terminals
    Throttle cable
    2 windshields
    3 sets of headlight bulbs
on my second set of O2 sensors
    CV boots on both sides
    Reverse light switch on transmission
    Throttle position sensor
    Mass air flow sensor
Countless engine oil and gear oil changes
Replaced stock OEM bilstiens with 5100's on the highest setting to level the truck out in front with KYB rear shocks on stock leafpack.
then went to Icon coil overs in front with custom made leaf pack in rear.. ran like shit, extremely harsh,
Now am running Fox front with external resi re valved for my trucks, 10 inch rear fox with resi also valved for the truck, Deaver J59 leaf pack. been great for years.

So far including the financial charges for the loan , the Tacoma had cost me USD$ 7,150.00 , sold for 7,150.00
    :burnrubber::oldglory:

Many expend a lot more on upgrades without checking the frame 1st. and at the time they want to sell , well...everyone want it almost for free.

You're right... that is one of the reasons I picked synthetic..... planning to do oil change only :oldglory:once a year since I just drive the Tacoma on weekends.
