Heat and humidity have been brutal here in NW Missouri last few weeks. I keep the mutts in the house with A/C.

Absolutely! That was my first desire. Only after I had her a little did I put her in a show on the advice of a breeder. But shows are a pain in the butt. She has a point towards her Championship (picture of that day above) but I think thats the end of it. Field Trails may happen, though. She's intense!!

 

Man my dog looks just like your yellow one. They both have that curly tail. do you know what kind of mix he is?

 

Can't remember if I introduced Louie in here yet. He's our 12 year Olds new pal after losing Marley this past winter. He's smart, but very timmid. Sophie's doing a great job of showing him the ropes!

Very nice mine is a Chesapeake mix...most people think it's a lab though

 

My old roommate used to do this to his lab. He shed so much of his hair because it was so hot. He was kept in a cage in the garage all day and night other than when he was being fed to going to the bathroom. I'd sneak him out as often as I could, but my roommate didn't want him in the house and we didn't have a yard

Just over 6 months old and Huck was 67lbs last week.

 

Yeah, I got the dude's email address from one of the HOA people, emailed him and told him that keeping the dog in the garage is fucked up and that he should do something about it, because this kind of thing is inhumane and warrants a visit from Animal Control.

He replied back saying they are watching this dog for a friend and she peed on the carpet. They called the owner to ask what do to about it and the fucking owner told him to lock her in the garage as a form of punishment and that they do have a large fan, water and food for her there and he thought that garage just gives her larger space to play. Did not sound like he is a dick, just doesn't have any experience with dogs.

I replied back explaining that punishing a dog after the fact does absolutely nothing and she can not associate what she is being punished for, explained that they need to reward good behavior and not other way around, told him that dogs don't play on their own all day and thrive on interaction with humans. Offered him Nature's Miracle to clean his carpet and a crate for her. And told him to hit me up with any dog training questions, if needed.

He wrote back that they do actually have her crate but thought the garage was better because it is bigger, but will use the crate when they are gone.

Anyway, looks like she is no longer in the garage and I saw him walking her last night. Mission accomplished?

Yeah I agree shows are a pain, but with that said my breeder talked me into showing the Toller pup next month up in the cities, she is coming down from Fargo to be the handler. Then end of September will meet her at the Nova Scotia Duck Toller National Specialty in Wi. If he does well guess it doesn't hurt to play to further advance the breed. But then I would really want him to earn a Master Hunter Toller sticker for the cap on my truck LOL. You know how much work and money that takes...

I built a Force Fetch table but couldn't bring myself to do an ear pinch or toe loop, getting soft I guess and figured there was a better way. In Rally class started doing clicker training a few weeks ago so have been using that instead. Guess I never understood clicker training but now love it and am sold.

Time to start getting exposure to birds and gun fire. Got drawn for SD waterfowl this year so pheasants AND ducks in a few months. I don't have any decoys but I do have a duck Toller
