Can't wait to buy myself a piece of land where I can get a really nice sized garden (read: small farm) going.

Very nice, Bucktales. Jealous of those peaches; my fruit trees have only been in the ground for 3 summers, so no fruit yet.
That horseradish reminds me of my mom's; she 'inherited' it from my grandmother, who 'inherited' it from her grandmother, etc. Her Rhubarb (and now mine) is the same way. She took cuttings from the original homestead, and I took cuttings from hers when I set up my own garden. The plants have been in the family since they settled on the hill in Farmington, which was before the Civil War. Crazy how long they last if you take care of them.

    Thanks.
I've been home all Summer after an arm surgery (2 weeks to go, arrgh), so I've been keeping up with the garden.
I prune my fruit trees pretty aggressively in the Winter and they seem to do well.
First peaches I've seen because I am home and my dog patrols the yard keeping the tree rats out.
They won't touch the pears for some reason.
My plum tree got blighted, so that's coming out. Don't know if I'll get another plum or something else yet.

Made up a salad from stuff mostly out of the garden, so fresh and good. Also did our last trim of the garlic from our harvest. This year yielded a little over 30lbs!

Turned 30 lbs of tomatoes into soup this weekend . . . you would think it made more than 14 quarts. Here they are cooking in our outside cooker pot with celery and onions.

image.jpg A not great pic of my little green house. Those are a late bearing verital of raspberries in front the give us a ice cream bucket of ripe berries every day. The only thing I did wrong with the green house is that I could have squeezed out a couple of more feet.

This year we have a vermin problem. The uv resistant plastic is fine on the walls in the third year, but done on the roof. Little holes started by the crows have become a rat hyway. The buggers come in and nip away at the rip tomatoes. I have been out in my truck, 5,000 km in the last three weeks, only to come home to a distraught wife. I put together a solid door, but I need to do the roof!

Nah, I'm always amazed at how many tomatoes it takes to make a pint of pretty much anything. Jealous of the tomato soup; I don't put much up because the GF won't eat it. I usually end up canning up about 10 pints or so and using them as lunches during the winter, lol. What variety (or varieties) of Tomato did you use? I usually do Amish Paste and Brandywine for my soup (Amish Paste for volume, Brandywines because they taste awesome)

    Sweet!
What variety of Raspberries are they? I need to get a plot started. We've got wild blackberries by the acre out behind our house, but not much for wild raspberries.

The Raspberries are called Autumn Bliss. They deliver most of their fruit after the commercial crop is done and over time. We will be picking them int October.

Another nice thing about this berry is that you cut down all the cains I the early winter. Very easy to do! No picking which are this year's or last year's.

    Hm. That's an interesting feature...
I need to scavenge some of my grandparent's patch. It's an heirloom variety (I have no idea what) that grows monster berries but also has some truly monster thorns that help keep the critters off them.
