Height wise the Yaris is fine up front. In the back is another story.

The Yaris will be slighty better on gas and is a more proven platform than the brand new Corolla.

It's settled guys. Brand new blue or black Yaris.....Eric gets to choose. Assuming he is OK with the height situation. :D

Nope lol. I just went through the same buying steps with my GF and Hyundai had the best price for the best car out their a few years ago. Things change but I would go with them again.

BTW I own a Ram 2500, Toyota Tacoma, and Ford F150, so you can tell my brand loyalty isn't all that impressive. I buy what works best (the Tacoma and F150) and I do try a wildcard every once in a while (the Hyundai we traded on the Ford and the Ram). The Ram has burnt me, but at least I can say I tried one. The Hyundai was rock solid and I'd encourage someone to look at there offerings, car wise anyways.

I think this is the smartest decision over buying used with a lot of miles with not all that much of a savings

I know. It would be really nice to have something new. It's definitely more than we'd planned to spend on a commuter car though, so we'll have to talk about it more. Would be so nice to not deal with any repair bills for years.

Oooh. Will insurance on a brand new car be outrageous compared to a used car?

Not over a 5 year model year difference.

The biggest difference is on the collision. Do you have collision on your cars/trucks now? That's the insurance where if you are at fault you get covered for your vehicle repairs or replacement.

TBH insurance is funny. When I was 16 it was almost $3700 to insure a 3 year old Sierra 1500 truck because I was young. Now my Tacoma costs me about $800 a year. My wifes Hyundai cost us about the same, and her F150 was even about $50 less because they rate well for accidents. Call your insurance broker for a quote and you'll know for sure pretty quick

not much more for insurance but maybe $20 a moth more because its full coverage

if you are open to green this corolla is near you http://www.captoyota.com/new/Toyota/2015-Toyota-Corolla-Salem-bcc9ba8d0a0e0a173bd3674f26a2fe50.htm

the website didn't show they had any yaris on the lot but maybe they just don't advertise them

Plus it's a GLS so it comes with lots of options missing from a Toyota in the sub 20's price range.

My suggestion would be to make a day of it, and if you and hubby are comfortable with the payments, drive both. See which one you like. That's what matters the most. I doubt either one will rattle apart ever if you do good preventative maintenance.

I just feel with Toyota, its a known quantity and you know you are getting quality and you have a history of reliable and easy to get cheap parts.

I don't think Hyundai are bad looking at all, I do like them but I would take the Toyota over one every time unless I was saving over $2k to do so.

I liked my chevy and loved the way it looked but it was still a lemon and a turd at the end of the day and ended my brand loyalty to GM forever after I was treated like shit by GM over it

in 2010 I was looking for a cheap new car for my daughter in college and we settled on a Nissan Versa for 10k out the door at the dealership, brand new. Now she wants to trade up to something better...If the car has lost it's entire value, it is less than 2k a year...

You are up to 18k in money for a car that gets 25 mpg or so. The 4rnr gets 17 and is $8700. How long before the cost of gas washes the price of an extra $10k? I'm not gonna do the math, but I bet it is over 10 years.

I've been fishing and drinking all day, I'm not tackling that math problem.

but that's also a BRAND NEW, FULL WARRANTY COVERAGE, UNMOLESTED CAR so that's a HUGE deal when talking about that extra $10k plus in 10 years when it balances out she knows she will have a well cared for car in unbelievable condition and there is nothing she will ever be able to buy used, that she would feel as secure in owning it and not worry about its past history.

there is a lot to be said for buying new and KNOWING what a cars history is and how its been treated

True, and it can be financed for 5 years, too.

New cars are a lot more reliable than old 4Runners. You won't need to tinker on a new car for 3-5 years.
