Any fellow survivalists utilize their truck?

I just tuck mine into my center console when I get into the truck. I've considered different in-vehicle holsters but haven't settled on one yet, so for now it just gets set in the front left corner of the console.
Less than ideal, but works fine for the time being.

Somehow I pictured your military gear to be more white and plastic-y.

 

Google "bug out bag" print a few lists from several Web sites. Go to dollar store and Walmart for the top items appearing on lists. Pack in zip lock bags under truck seats. Roll up a backpack and place in what's left of storage space. When - not if - shtf, your truck is a concealed supply bug out bag. And if you need to abandon ship, throw the zip lock bags in the back pack and walk. Hope this helps.

Chainsaw, that's something useful I need to put in my truck. Up here in the Pacific Northwest trees falling across the logging roads is common.

Was thinking that without the gas there would be less mess to deal with and would only be used if needed.

 

I'll use my hand saw for material that small. Real cutting requires fossil fuel, or a misery whip - and you won't catch me carrying one of those in my truck.

I would carry my cordless reciprocating saw and some 10" pruning blades before I went the electric chainsaw route

 

Same problem here in Maine, but I just keep a light double-bit Cruiser axe in the truck. If I'm just clearing a road, I'm not worried about sectioning it up for firewood. I keep it nice and sharp, so I can cut up and move a 12 inch hardwood in about 10 minutes (softwoods are a little faster), and I don't have to worry about keeping gas for it in the truck, stale fuel, or carrying my saw gear (chaps, helmet, etc) in the truck. Plus, the axe takes up a LOT less room in the truck, and I'm not worried about somebody absconding with my Husqvarna. The axe only cost me $5 for the head at a yardsale, and rehafting it cost me less than $20. The Husky cost me a hell of a lot more than that...

Pros: $30 for a bag and a hat
cons: its small, can get heavy

As for using it as a bug out bag, I prefer pack backs over bags like this because of the even weight distribution back packs. The LA police gear bag has a should strap which can get annoying if you have to travel long distances.

Again, it all depends on what you actually want to use it for. It has a great reviews on the LAPG website.

 

I hear ya but you'd be surprised how effective my electric chain saw is. Say what you will but it beats the shit out of using a hand saw. I don't log for a living, don't get me wrong. I have a gas powered as well.

 

I've had a few of those bags and they are good as range bags but since I already have a dedicated range bag I've given them all away. All of them came free as part of a promotion and I would imagine that they would do a similar promotion again.

 

The electrical saws are nice because they're pure torque, but I prefer the axe because it's low tech, lightweight, and takes up very little room in the truck.

I carry a chopping axe, splitting axe, and my hatchet, they are pretty reliable. But I did just bought a gas chainsaw because it was on sale and figured I might need one someday.

 

My baby survival expo rig. Yeti 50 for perishables, Hi-Lift, shovel, 2 Jerry Cans (one water, one gas), 2 Ammo cans (one for ammo, one tools), full size spare and ratchet straps. And a trailer net that could probably be utilized in a survival situation.

Was restocking my first aid kits in the trucks tonight and figured I'd remind y'all to check the expiration dates on your medkits. I hadn't checked mine in what I thought was a year but turned out to be a bit longer...SURPRISE!! All of the painkillers and antibiotics had expired in 2014
And a lot of the sterile bandages were due for a refresh too. So, just a friendly reminder to check your expiration dates, boys and girls!
