So here's a question. My new truck has holes drilled in the bed for fifth wheel rails. Should I go ahead and just put a new set of rails in the bed along with a fifth wheel to goosneck adapter, or should I just go straight gooseneck?

I can get a set of rails and a gooseneck adapter for about $300. I will bolt this up myself.

The flipover ball gooseneck installed is $495. Due to timing I'll probably have the shop put this one in for me.

With the flipover ball I won't have anything obstructing the bed when I'm not towing. With the rails and adapter there will always be something in the bed getting in the way.

    What does everyone think?

How often would you use a 5th wheel? You gonna buy a big ass camper? I would install the gooseneck plate your self it's really easy. I'm guessing a b&w brand is what youre buying

Going with a curt dual lock. There's a shop that's running a deal right now. $495 installed for a $450 hitch. I'll let them have it.

I'm not planning on buying a camper. If anything I'll upgrade the gooseneck trailer to something longer and put a truck camper on the nose.

The trailer will live at a friends house in Alvin. Depending on how things work out Smokey may stay on the trailer till I find a house to rent. Paying the extra $100 to park a second vehicle, and the $100 storage fee for the trailer will add up quick.

Can't beat that then. I still say ignore the 5th wheel stuff. Any trailer you'll ever need will be available in gooseneck

In the CG we had the flip over ball in our truck to tow the small boats and we never had a problem with it. Used the truck all the time to haul things in the bed then turn around and tow a boat up to New Orleans. Very versatile.

Yeah, the convenience of having an unobstructed bed is leaning me towards the flipover ball.

We used f350s and it was nice after the hurricanes to be able to use the bed to haul sheet rock down to the station as well as bring the boats back down with out having to do anything but flip the ball.
