I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
A lot of Options from 2005 had become a part of Standard.
So SR5 in 2005 would not have any traction control, no extra side airbags, no curtains , no wiring for it, no sensors. Your Radio would be very light 6 cd changer (no entune with screen) ..... No temperature sensor or backup camera no wiring for them... etc etc...

So once you start adding up every lb on the weight scale SR5 vs SR5 is around 300LB difference.

Over the years there were other changes to leaf packs, and frame...
So Curb weight difference listed is 185Lb and on weight scale difference was almost 300 LB . so 115 lb in just safety futures that became standard is right on the money.

Just to clarify the new Tacoma shaved 500 lbs in construction but gained 200 lbs in features, so the new tow rating is now 6800 lbs due to the truck being 300 lbs lighter.
This was taken from an interview with sweers a few months ago

Truth. Where I used to work, we were constantly reminded that the promed app was for the ED, not the ER... Cause there's lots of rooms, not just one.

So... I should eat after driving, less weight = better mpg. May look into laxatives…

That means I can look for an even fatter girlfriend to ride with me while pulling my trailer without affecting my tow capacity. Thanks, Sweers!

Dang, 500lbs is a lot. I'd opt out of the extra features honestly to save that kind of weight.

I heard straight from the Toyota dealership that the 3.5 engine is designed to last until 200,000 miles, unlike it's predecessor, the 4.0 which was designed to last until 1,000,000 miles.

Just another reason to avoid the 2016 like the plague.

So they're putting a new engine in one of their best selling vehicles that will have 1/5th of
the life expectancy of the current model? seems legit.

Lol. Just wait until the 2015 inventory is gone and he'll be saying the 3.5 is designed to last infinity miles.

Why not? It saves Toyota probably $1000 a car (if not more) to reuse reprogrammed 2gr-f?e.

Also They no longer need to keep 1gr line in Alabama.
Plus with exception of few complainers about car engine in a truck , most consumers will not know a difference. If engine self destroys it will be after warranty anyway. A lot of people do not keep their vehicles past warranty, those who keep 7 years and longer, are far too few.

They did the same thing with wheel bearing on 2 gen. New wheel bearings uses plastic cages. It saves Toyota probably $0.10 per car.

Truth is no gasoline engine is designed to last one million miles. Maybe a big rig diesel is designed to go that long. 150, 000 trouble free miles is what most automakers shoot for with gas engine. Salespeople are known for saying what they need to sell what's in their lot.

Of a salesperson gets the hint that you are interested in buying a 15 before the 16s come out, they will bash on the 16 like a current gen2 owner on TW.

I don't disagree, but there are an awful lot of landcruisers pushing the million mile mark. I drive a 25 year old FJ80, everything still works great. http://oppositelock.kinja.com/why-the-toyota-land-cruiser-is-so-expensive-1715003811
