Warranty advice

I'm trying to decide if keeping my extended warranty is worth it or not. I'm just looking for some opinions. I bought a 7 yr/100,000 mile warranty with my truck for $1,600.

The warranty is through Fidelity Warranty services and is a bumper to bumper warranty. I am wanting to lift my truck so that will void some of the warranty there as well as adding larger wheels/tires.

I can get a full refund if I cancel the warranty right now. Is it worth keeping? I've never had to deal with warranty services before.

 

It is a gamble:

You are betting 1,600 dollars your truck is going to break, the warranty company is betting that it isn't.

Who wins? It's up in the air... Nobody knows. Good luck on your choice. I don't buy extended warranty's and I have never needed one with Toyota's. Of course maybe I am just lucky.

 

I will not be buying an extended warranty on my new Taco. Nor have I gotten one with my used Super Dutys.
I don't feel they are worth it. But isn't that why they are offered? They make those that offer them money.

Most of a vehicles problems are controlled by you and how you take care of it. Toyota has had some crazy things go wrong with their vehicles in the past but they fix those problems regardless of warranty.

 

I have had VERY poor experiences with extended warranties, and the last time, we had to sue for recovery, and that took three years after a dealer caused engine failure on a land cruiser. Extended warranties are some of the highest profit margin sales events for a dealership. If you can get your money back, go ahead. In 4+ years and 65k miles my '11 taco has needed virtually zero corrective maintenance...wait, I had to put in a turn signal bulb recently. In the last four years, it has been upgrades to wheels, tires, brakes, suspension, plus 30K services, oil and filter changes. NOTHING HAS BROKE. Get your money back.

Think you'll get Fidelity to cover anything, especially without a drawn-out fight?

Or, refund the warranty if not used? Read the complaints!

I've got the Fidelity one on both my wife's Rav and my Tacoma. We had to use it not too long ago on her car. Had to replace both of the Cam gears. Would have been around $900. We all know $900 is less then $1,600 but ours didn't cost that much. I honestly don't remember the exact amount but it was on a used car so we got it. I'd prefer it myself because we plan on keeping it for a while and cars break. Toyota has a good reputation for not breaking, but in the end it's mechanical. Things break. I'm about to have to take mine to the dealership and most likely have the steering rack replaced since it's leaking on both ends. Warranty will cover that as well.

 

Most if not all after mkt. warranty's are not worth the paper there written on. If you feel the need for coverage then dump Fidelity and buy a Toyota factory warranty.
Some dealers push after mkt. paper because the profit margin is higher.

2010 yaris blew the exhaust donut this year. free fix. did I get my warranty money back hell no but....free fix

OH -only- toyota factory warranty, for smoothest experience. other aftermarket warranties, total crap fest

 

Man, well I think I'll take my money and run. We don't have emissions tests in MT so no worries there.

I hate to not have it but I don't want a headache having to deal with them if I do.

I still have some factory warranty left so I suppose I'll see what happens. I take care of my vehicles and garage them mostly.

 

As long as you still have factory warranty you should be able to buy Toyota factory extended warranty from any dealer in your state.

 

As I'm not surprised I am disappointed as that wasn't offered. I am calling today to cancel the warranty. I'll see if I can get a Toyota extended warranty

 

I have had a few extended warranties of vehicles. Always went with a factory warranty and not an aftermarket one.

I have not verified this recently but it used to be you had up until your 3 year or 36,000 mile to buy your toyota factory warranty. It used to be that we could purchase these over the internet and there were several dealers selling these at much reduced rates. I believe now that toyota requires you purchase their warranty from within the state that you bought it. Lot of varying thoughts/theories on VSCs, search extended warranties and you can read pros and cons. I bought mine because I keep my trucks for 8-10 years and a couple of years ago I paid like $750 for 8 year/75,000 VSC from Toyota. Some send out requests for internet price quote to all dealers in their state.One problem you might have is you have a limited number of dealers to internet shop for pricing. Have seen mention of another dealer here on TW that still sells warranties for Toyota but he is a Lexus dealer I believe. Recommend you call Toyota Financial Services to verify any questions if you decide to pursue VSC.
