The WRX would be really nice. My buddy Matt has one and he absolutely loves it. But when you look at MPG, cost, etc, they just aren't really a smart buy for us, at least not right now.

Don't worry, there's no way we'd buy a Mazda or Golf. Just blabbing.

there are quite a few Hyundai out there too that fit your needs, don't know about their mpg but I never had one or know anyone who does but I would look at civics and Hyundai and choose the best one you find out of those

 No worries, keep the pressure coming. I need it, otherwise we'll still be trying to figure this out on the anniversary of the piston hole. Thought about that the other day and realized it's actually not that far off........then laughed at myself, thinking, I could see us still trying to decide about this then

@koditten , just for kicks, I'm gonna do the math on that point you made recently, about fuel cost differences vs. price differences in the vehicle itself. Going to do my very best to find a way to justify getting a 2nd Taco, just can't sign on a Civ or Corolla til I know for SURE I've exhausted all possible ways to justify 2nd Taco.

well it can be your transportation when you need to run errands so your not stuck at home like you are now and then you can buy the commuter when a great deal hits you over the head instead of being pressured to buy one now.

I tried. I REALLY did try with those. Stared at a variety of them online, looked at their prices, looked at their Consumer Reports info. Can't remember if I looked at their MPG but I'm sure the smaller ones do great. Just don't like them, and C.R. ratings were not good compared to Civics and Corollas. It would take something seriously attractive AND cheaper to lure me away from the overall value/practicality of a Corolla or Civ.

I didn't think about this! Hmmm. Although I can't REALLY put Dolly in one, can I? Do you have to take a class/get a special permit to ride a scooter type thing (not an actual motorcycle)?

yes you need to get a motorcycle endorsement added to your drivers license to drive them because they are considered motorized bikes.

there are pet carriers for bikes but I don't think I would but my baby on a bike because if you wrecked, they are in a box and cant protect themselves

I think that's CR slant and not the truth right there. Plenty of Sonata's and Elantra's out there with 200K and no issues. I totally get it though and you should buy what you feel comfortable with, but if you want the best deal it isn't a 3 year old Civic. You are paying for a bit of an unknown and hoping it lives up to it's name plate for what, maybe 4-5K in savings over a period of 10 years of ownership...

OK, a 4wd, automatic, 1st gen Taco gets 16 mpg on average.

A 2012 Civic gets exactly 2x that in mpg.

    Eric drives ~500 miles/month.

Ready, set...................and........................help me justify why getting the Taco makes more sense!! :D :help:

Really, do you see them go to that kind of mileage more often than not?

I agree, there is that unknown part of it where you risk getting screwed. But even with new cars you have some of that! Some cars just hold up longer than others, we all know it. Not saying Hyundais aren't one of them, just that if you don't buy the RIGHT kind of new car, you have the risk of shit constantly breaking. My friend bought a brand new Ford Focus or Fusion or something like that, a small Ford, a couple of years ago. She kept having to take it in for some weird noise or issue (I forget what exactly) and they'd tell her they fixed it then she'd go back. Over and over. Sure, since she bought brand new, she had a warranty. But she kept having to make arrangement to be late to work, find rides, coordinate all those trips back there each time. PITA. On a typical Civic, you just don't have that kind of shit happening, at least not when it's brand new. That's been my experience anyway.

EDIT: or even kinda new.......just doesn't seem to happen much....
