I've got a 2000 Tacoma, great truck, except the heater is always hot and only on defrost. I'd like to have A/C again. The fan control works and everything lights up. Anyone know of any specific issues before I pull the dash apart and replace the controls?

Does your compressor run? Sounds like the AC light comes on, so make sure it's spinning. If not, check fuse, power to compressor clutch, refrigerant (if there is a pressure switch on your model).

i have a similar issue. ac compressor wont engage with amber ac light button engaged but fresh air and circulate levels, appear to run at normal temps. i checked the 7.5vlt amp fuse and replaced it with a 10amp, no change. put 7.5 back and same issue. im thinking its either the belt or the compressor ground or it ceased under load

Check the cable behind the glove box to make sure it is moving when the knob is twisted. It may have come loose from the knob, or broken of the housing near the fire wall.

No cable on your truck. Yours is electric. Have you removed the control face lately?

oh, lol. well me and a buddy checked around the compressor today and the cables. not sure if we were looking in the correct area. but did look on the side where the glove bock is. not too advanced with the control face to check.
