I want TRD Pro Suspension, but how?

    TW,

I have a 2015 DCSB OR, and I'd like to do a mild lift. My goal is improved off-road performance, with no intention of increasing wheel diameter. Unfortunately I'm also scared to death of drive-line vibration after adding any lift. The ensuing headaches caused by the troubleshooting are just too much for me.

    That said, I have two questions;

    1. Would it be accurate to assume that if I attempt to roughly copy the suspension height of the TRD Pro, I would run the least chance of drive-line issues? Specifically, this would mean simply adding some height to only the front end to level things out. (which I'm okay with doing)

    2. Assuming a front end only level is appropriate, do you guys think adding Bilstein 6112s are overkill? I know there is a TRD suspension kit available, but I'm under the impression I could do better with aftermarket.

Any insight or suggestions would be appreciated

    Thank you

No such thing as overkill, just quality. Why not just add a little more and get a coilover setup? Adjustable height, lean, rebuildable , revalveable.

    Any of the top names.
Entry level will be 2.0 size, no external reservoirs, or you could go up to 2.5 size with external reservoirs, and reservoirs with compression adjusters.

    enough to go over stuff
Fox, icon, king... UCA's only required for extended travel and lifts over 2.5 inches or fitting 285s with stock rims.

OP where do you live? Because I can tell you if you live near the Ocean or any other high salt areas. Coilovers are going to rot out quick, and others can attest to this. If you live in high salt areas or the Northeast like me. Don't go with Coilovers, go with the new 6112's or a OME, or a full 5100 kit.

I'm a Michigan man, with lots of salty Michigan winters.

I don't understand why coilovers would rot out faster. Can you elaborate?

    Thank you

Anything that isn't painted is going to corrode. Fact of life, either take care of your investment or watch it rot.

There are many threads on the topic of corrosion protection. Get a gallon of CRC 6-56 and a spray bottle and apply as needed, done.

Pretty sure Bilstein can revalve those Pro/Baja shocks no problem if you ever need it done

Obviously, I'm setting quality aside vs king/icon etc... but I did the 1.6" eibachs with 5100's at "0" and didn't get any vibes. Looks a little more like a truck should, and I'm happy with the ride.

I picked up the fox ultimate suspension from toytec. The truck actually drives better lifted 3 iches then it did stock. As of right now I do not have any vibrations or issues.

I take it back... I just called Bilstein to verify.

If you buy the Pro/Baja kit, because they were built as OE equipment for Toyota (TRD), if they ever have issues Bilstein will not service them. Owners are to go through Toyota to handle it. Their policy is that they won't touch shocks made for OE applications. Now, the rep did say if any issues arise few years from now you can always call to see if the policy has changed and if they would rebuild them. My take away from the conversation is that yes, they can be rebuilt, but Bilstein won't touch them at this time because they are an OE product for Toyota.

In the case of aftermarket Bilstein 5160's and the new Bilstein 6112's, they are rebuild-able should the owner ever have the need and depending on the extent of damage (as long as they aren't crimped). A rep also verified the new 6112's are close to the 9100's used in the Baja/Pro setup, but a little different besides just the perch being adjustable.

I have a 2015 TRD Sport 4dr Long Bed. About to put the OEM TRD Pro lift kit on it. Anyone have any experience with this yet on a 4dr long bed? Any driveline issues?

Look for keyword's such as, Com10 spherical bearings, 6061-T6 aluminum, 4130 steel alloy shafts or Nitro Steel shafts, Buna/ Viton seals when purchasing your shocks. Make sure for the front you get shocks with nothing smaller than a 7/8" shaft (Though that should be standard for the front anywho). In the rear, a 5/8" shaft is acceptable, and it's actually what I run on my desert/ sand runner which I have put through the ringer.

All the top brands use materials such as these when building their shocks. You can't go wrong with King/ Fox/ Sway Away/ Icon/ ADS

As a side note on Fox while they do produce a high quality product have their shock bodies which use a coating which wears away very quickly and leaves them susceptible to rust since they use steel bodies. They do offer their shocks in Aluminum and I think they call them their Performance series. I have Fox stuff on my truck and live away from the ocean air or any salt, yet some of my stuff is rusting away barely on year two of having them on the truck. Just something to think about.
