I like it...just doesn't blow my socks off.

By no means are we rich, just a saver...paid cash for my vehicles, since I am a scrooge that likes to squirrel money away, have a hard time opening up the purse strings for something that is "ok". The diesel Colorado is looking good spec wise, kind of a bummer no manual trans and not available in the extra cab, gawd damn manufactures always seem to miss a mark or two...still have to wait a year to see how they fair...never buy a 1st year vehicle.

In the end they are just dumb vehicles that we need to haul our crap around, not sure why we stress over specs and whatnot. (me included!)

I think we stress over it because we want something epic. We want awesome. We keep getting "meh". We know Toyota can do it. Maybe it is too big of a risk for them?

It really does cost more* to make a totally stripped out version if 95% of the potential customers aren't asking for that.

    * cost more in the business case sense. With all that stuff stripped out, most people want it to be significantly cheaper. That is where the business case falls on its face. There is a reason Henry Ford made his cars in any color as long as it was black. Variants cost money.

Henry Ford also started to fail in epic proportions. As people in mass quantities started buying cars from other manufacturers because they wanted red, or green, or what have you.

That is what I want...a basic no bullshit truck that I can beat the shit out of.

However by a manufacture's production stand point they make more money by offering a select few packages, instead of letting the consumer pick and choose exactly how they want their product...in this day and age of consumerism you would think their would be more options though.

Icon nails the old skool look with just enough modernization. Too bad they cost as much as some houses...

At least they don't hold their value...this one dropped $50K in 5 years...wait another 5, and it might be reasonable. ;)

I like the FJ43 wheelbase, not too short, not too long...just riiiight.

There is about a $15K price gap between a base model I4 SR and a limited. Seems like they are covering most of the market there.

I totally get what you are saying and I didn't mean my comment offensively. It just seems like most of the 3rd gen whining, but not all, is now coming from guys who aren't going to pay for one anyways. Sort of like people who complain about BMW or Audi being terrible for reliability even though they will never buy one new.

I think a lot of, and you're 33 so it is strange, the push back for guys to have more basic vehicles comes from an older school of thought that if vehicles didn't have power windows or a touch screen stereo they'd be thousands cheaper, when that's not the case. TBH that radio probably costs Toyota a whole $50 and the power windows are a wash due to simplifying the parts bin with one option. Sure, the safety systems are driving up the cost, but to be honest if you ever have to use them you are going to be glad you had all of those airbags, plastic sensors, crumple zones, years of research, etc etc when they allow you to walk away from a crash that in the 70's would of left you pooping in a bag, or just in a plain old body bag.

If you want utilitarian and cheap, buy used. No offense there but then you have something on the cheap that you can tinker with to get it just like you want it.

yeah. I'm searching for an FJ now that I can convert the back seat for child seat usage. HAHAHA. I wont have the kids that often, and when I do, it will be for joy rides through parks and such.

Yes, because most buyers wanted different colors. If most buyers want it, you then have a solid business case. Most buyers don't want a stripped truck.

Is anyone else happy that Toyota is keeping the 2TR four banger? I am. That is all.

    from Wikipedia,

    2GR-FKS[edit]
The 2GR-FKS is an upcoming version that combines the D-4S system from the 2GR-FSE with the simulated on-demand Atkinson cycle used in the updated 2UR-GSE and new 8AR-FTS engines. Early specification sheets posted online for the 2016 model year Tacoma list 201 kW (270 hp) at 6000 rpm and 261 lb·ft (354 N·m) of torque at 4600 rpm,[8] however specifications have not been officially announced by Toyota.

    Applications (calendar years):

Don't know why it says 2015 tacoma instead of 2016

Because it's Wikipedia. I love Wiki but at this point Wikipedia is speculating as just as much as the people in these threads are.

Oh what I am saying is, there are more important things in life to worry about than a vehicle...my gear head vs. practical side battle each other constantly. ;)

What really burns me about Toyota is, they make exactly what I want...just not here. I dunno, the midsize truck market is fairly small for them...since the tooling has long been paid for the HiLux and LC70, not sure why Toyota had to reinvent the wheel with the Tacoma and Tundra.

They should of never tried and compete with the US 1/2 ton market, should of stayed quirky and done their own thing.

I'd challenge if they had of kept the T100 and first gen Tacoma they would sell less than half of the trucks they do right now. No one, except the odd ranch, wanted a tiny half ton V6 and the first gen Tacoma existed during a period when compact trucks were popular. The 2nd gen survived basically because everyone else left the market as gas prices forced the idea of a small inefficient truck out of the hands of most buyers. In a way Toyota is quirky in the way they continued the Tacoma anyways as others turned away.

Sure, the circle jerkers in the 1st gen forum would be happy with a compact truck but the 90% of sales that go to commuters would be no where near as strong with a truck that feels like a lifted Sunfire that gets 16 mpg V6.

I still don't get the Hilux circle jerk either... I believe it's sized up to nearly Tacoma size as well now. What about the Hilux, other than the Diesel and third world no safety features model do you want? TBH even if the Hilux was sold here neither of those packages would likely make it here.

I don't think Toyota even tries to compete in the half ton market. I think they are happy with Tundra sales where they are and it makes them great profit margins, so they do just enough to the Tundra to keep it's popularity where it is at.
