how much did you take apart to paint? UCAs? LCAs? C/Os? Leafs? or did you just hit what you could see and call it a day?

I removed the sliders, front bumper, and skid plate. I left the coilovers, rear shocks and leafs mounted. If this stuff lasts the winter, then next summer I will be doing a more in depth tear down. I don't have a second vehicle to be driving while this one is down so I only had friday through sunday evening to get what I could done. The skid plate was very rusty but after the degreaser and metal prep, all of the rust was gone and it was ready for two coats of por-15 and two coats of the top coat. I still have the sliders to do as I ran out of the POR-15.

Once you open that can, you can pretty much bet on not saving anything for later. Once it starts to cure, it cures nearly rock hard. Overall, the stuff looks really good and it dries very quickly.

So about 2 weeks ago I coated mr frame with POR15 so today I am going to do the same for the sliders. Got these sliders back in late 2006 from Demello Off-road. They have paid for themselves many times over as you can tell from the picture below. Some advice for those that are thinking about the POR15:

-The cleaner/degreaser goes a long way. I have only used a third of that jug. Same goes for the metal prep.

-For the actual por15, stick with the small cans. There is no saving this stuff for later. As soon as you open that can, it starts to harden up. When I did the frame, I split it up into two days. The first coat you out on, the por15 is rather thin. Day 2, and that stuff was very thick. So try to do that part in one day if possible.

-if you plan on using the top coat, get a different color of the por15. If was very difficult to see what had a top coat and what didn't when I did the frame. For the sliders I have a silver por15 with a glossy top coat.

-whatever you use to apply it cannot be cleaned a saved for later. Get some cheap paint brushes/rollers. Once the por15 hardens, there is no cleaning/washing that stuff out.

-It's all in the prep. I pressure washed the sliders twice. Then cleaned/decreased twice. Same goes for the metal prep. Two coats of por15 and then two coats of top coat.

Did you have POR15 on the slider originally?

Finished up the sliders. Finished them off with some grip tape on top. Super pleased with how they turned out. Next summer, I will snap pictures to see how the POR-15 held up during the winter. Hopefully, these last another 8 years or more before having to paint again.

por15 is great stuff, looks good! Where did you source your grip tape from? I've been debating that route myself.

So with this POR stuff you don't actually sand the rust off? Just degrease and paint?

I got mine from Home Depot. It comes in 2 inch rolls and I bought a 15 foot roll and that was enough for both sides.

I even used it on my pistols, haha.

Basically yea, with the rust prep, it actually turns the rust into a white color. There are a couple videos that show what it does to the rust.
