I know entune sucks major balls, but is there any chance that using the entune app in my phone to connect to the app suite opens up some kind of security vulnerabilities?

Maybe I should delete that nonsense off my phone just in case.

The jeeps were hacked via their infotainment system. Can hackers do it via entune, no one has a clue, including me or anyone on this forum.

Does entune link to the internet yes, is it hackable, who knows.

Does entune access the central computer at all? Does the Tacoma have a central computer? Maybe I sound like an idiot. I have no idea how to hack stuff or much about computers at all, but can't they worm their way around once they're in there?

This is exactly why I don't buy vehicles equipped with OnStar and similar "OBD3" wireless communication systems. It's great tech on paper, but put into the wrong hands they can do some horrible things to you or your property.

I don't think Entune has any control over the ECU/ECM in the truck, might have access to some sensors, but I don't think Entune can control functions in the truck.

Not counting beyond the 2nd gens

Was just reading that with the prius the brakes and steering are on the same network as the Bluetooth/Entune. Not sure if that is same with the Taco. This is all internet chatter so who knows.

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
If Entune has any park sensor that won't let you perform certain actions while driving, then systems are linked and therefore vulnerable. I think Tacoma OEM stereos without nav are fully standalone which prevents access to any real vehicle control systems.

Hackers would need to get the ECU and immobilizer unit in order to screw you. I don't think anything pertaining to the radio could affect either one of those components.

The CAN bus is a two wire serial communication "network " that is used primarily on motor vehicles, but also elsewhere. it can greatly simplify wiring and control of items through out a car; however, as has been pointed out it can be hacked if not protected properly.
I haven't checked out my 2015 enough yet, but I'm not sure how much of a can bus Toyota is even using on the Tacoma. The parking brake sensor to the stereo appears to be a contact sensor, as does the reverse. It does enable certain functions when not moving, but they all seem to have gps and use that rather than getting information from the ecu or other engine control systems. Foe that matter, the Tacomas don't seem to really have much else in control systems. Most everything on it is nearly the same control wise as my 2002 Saturn and less technologically advanced than my 2002 F250 was.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
So your Entune does not have MPG/ fuel economy display ?
For others... yes the new stereo is connected to on board computer (why you can get the fuel readings on the screen)
But it should be one way connection. (it can read but can not write)
