Might be moving to the Springs for a job.

Moving whole family, some dogs and a cat.

Will need good elementary and high school.

Will need safe place to live.

    Any recommendation?

    Thanks,
    Chris

Go eat at Shuga's. Kinda a trendy hipster joint but the food and drinks are good. Other than that, I'm no help.

The Fountain Ft Carson schools are good. Some parts of Fountain and Security are good, some are not. Fountain is growing, has lots of new restaurants, etc.

If you like Texas and want an experience similar to living in Texas, stay east of 25. If you want to feel more like you are in a mountain town, stay west of 25.
My opinion comes from having lived on both sides of 25 and having lived in DFW.
I now live about as far west in manitou as I can get, and I love it.

Manitou Springs. Hippy mountain town right next to the springs. If your looking to buy a place there is a certain area of town to avoid due to flash floods a couple years ago.

This is a good reference for all things about the city. Also a good way to see which areas you want to avoid living in http://www.city-data.com/city/Colorado-Springs-Colorado.html

I live in the Broadmoor area. People always thing "dang you're rich!" no lol. We're in a little pocket of homes that are along one of the original streets here, more or less an historic district. It's really quaint.

Used to live in Old Colorado City. Wasn't bad...but got tired of the homeless problem around there.

And prepare your wallet. We have some of the best wheeling in Colorado!

Area I'd say to avoid is around the Airport. There's some good sections but crime always seems to be happening over there. Don't fall for the low priced, nice houses.

I just waiting on some final paperwork, think I found a small cheap apartment in a decent neighborhood.

Family will stay in TX til June, when two oldest girls graduate HS.

A good rule of thumb is, the further north you move, the more expensive it will get. Same applies to the further West you move.

Overall it's a decent town. You shouldn't expect a metropolitan life style like Denver. I always say, it's the biggest suburb I've ever been to. Downtown is a joke in my opinion.
Coming from Texas you'll feel right at home. I see more TX plates than any other state. Which also leads me to not like TX drivers very much. No offense, it's a generalization, I know.

As far as living expenses are concerned, it's for Colorado the cheapest "big" town. I do second the "Shuga's" recommendation. We know the owners, awesome place and good food. Definitely hipster hang out.

You'll like it, I have no doubt. Good luck with the move.

I drive the speed limit and use my turn signals, that always seem to get myself honked at wherever I go!

Not that kind of driving. I'm referring to the kind that don't think their car came with turn signals, change lanes like there's no one within a 100 mile radius, pull out in front of traffic without looking, don't know how to use merge lanes, and the list goes on and on and on.

Good luck with your move! My wife and I just moved here this past weekend. We love it so much, not to mention no more 100* Arkansas weather. Yuck. We live close by Colorado College in Old North End.

BTW enjoy the current green-ness of everything. It's normally quite brown haha. Unusual to be this green.
