i currently have a 2006 tacoma dcsb trd sport for 9 years now and im ready to upgrade into a 4x4 offroad.

It looks like the majority here does not recomend the 3rd gen taco and i dont care about the colorado and the canyon or any other midsize trucks.

I am considering the 16'/17' 4Runner or maybe 16'/17' Tundra. It will be used for my daily commute to work, and for camping and off roading. Or is the 3rd Gen Taco the better option. Thanks.

A 16 or 17 foot 4runner? I'd have to see it to believe it.

Im fine with both suv or truck. I just want a 4x4 offroad for work and fun.

I wouldn't go with the Tundra if you plan on daily driving and have more than a couple mile drive to work because of the mileage.

I love the 4 runner but I would say go with a truck. The Taco or Tundra. I promise there will come a time when you need to haul something that will not fit into the 4 Runner. And unless you have a trailer, that pick up truck works way better in that situation

I am in the same dilemma! I am very much in love with the TRD Pro 4Runner but would like a Bed more.. Gonna be hard to decide. If Toyota did a little more to convince me they tried their hardest on the 3rd gen it would be a no brainier.

The 3rd gen will be just fine. It looks like a nice truck and has come a long way from the 08 model I have now. The Tacoma is a the most popular mid size so why would Toyota want to shake that up but so much. The cost of Toyotas are the thing that really get me. You way overpay for what you get

My vote is the 4Runner. If a truck wasnt an absolute need for me, that's what my daily driver would be. Luckily, I can steal the wife's whenever I want. :goingcrazy:

If you own a home you need a truck. Or you are at the mercy of friends or family that have one when needed.

They're both good options. Wait until they are on dealer lots and test drive both.

Having owned 2- 2nd Gen Tacos and a 2014 4runner I'd say get the 4runner unless you need a P/U. Built better IMO.

I'd wait till the 16 taco is actually out to ask opinions.

I am in the same position but I can't do automatic so the 4 runner is out.
Aside from the auto only, i love my wifes 4 runner.

Things the 4runner has over the taco that we know:
    - Rear electric window
    - Power adjustable seats
    - rear disc brakes

the 15 4 runner is built on the land cruiser chassis...........Yes ? No?

is that a beefier chassis than the Tacoma ?

I was also considering the 15 4Runner SR5 if I could find a year end discounted 4WD or the 16 Tacoma

The day I decided I needed to get a truck is when I had to pick up some mulch for my flowerbeds. Every inch of my 4runner except the dash and driver seat had bags of mulch stacked in it. IMO that is the only benefit of a tacoma over a 4runner....a bed.

4Runner all day, its just a better option over the Tacoma. if you need to haul something get a small trailer.
