Ok before I start this post, I would like to say that if you're going to comment below with the typical "DO A TRUE RETROFIT! HID IN STOCK HOUSINGS IS ANNOYING," you can keep it to yourself. Unfortunately I'm a poor college kid, and frankly I can do what I wish cause at the end of the day it's MY truck.

Anyways, I just ordered Kensun 6000k HID kits for fogs and headlights. I'm pretty good at DIY work on my truck so I'm not too worried about installing them, however I did read that this particular brand connects directly to the battery in order to help the bulbs warm up faster and to help with the typical "HID flicker." I was just curious if anyone has experience with this, and if so, will my headlights still cut off when I open my door, given that they are connected to the battery directly?

    Thanks in advance

Your truck =/= your roads. Those PNP kits just blind others and increase your visible acuity by about 10% on a good day.

Do it right the first time or don't do it at all.

I've been in the exact same position. Back in 2004 I got a PNP HID kit for my car because retrofits weren't mainstream and I didn't have the $$$ to get all the necessary parts. Plus, PNP is WAAAY less work than retrofitting (I've done 2).

So, from experience, I'll say buy a set of used retros off of a TW member if you can't afford to DIY. Kits are cheaper now, retros are also more abundant and the parts are cheaper, too.

At the time I probably wouldn't have listened to that advice either, so if you do end up going with a PNP kit anyway...do everyone a favor and try to source a "shielded" kit/bulb, and aim your headlights down further than you think you should. The added lumens will still light up the road, but you won't be throwing the bulk of the light straight into other drivers' eyes.

You guys are of no help. You act as if I am some uneducated, immature, high school brat. I am a very well educated Nursing student about to start my 3rd year. I plan on aiming them downward and designing some sort of shield. But thanks so much for your unnecessary, IMMATURE replies.

Contrary........ U PROVE ur uneducated in this setting atleast.

Ur gunna aim em down..... Ur brilliant.... A damn genius.
This means ur eyes will be overcome by the intense light right in front of u, and u will not be able to see farther away.

I didn't wanna be a dick, but calling the prior guys asking u not to do this and how it rlly is blinding others fell on deaf ears, so I will be that guy.

Don't be lazy, u could KILL someone if they cannot see due to ur lights blinding them and u WILL be at fault automatically.

Thank god ur far from me....... If I or my family gets hurt due to some crap like this, I will beat the holy shit out of the person and do my time in prison.

And I'm a fairly nice guy..... But u endanger me or my family because u wanna be cool, cheap, illegal, and not listen to people trying to help you, and even Cecil wouldn't stand a chance

I had some of these PNP kits back when I was younger. They never seemed to last more than a few months, either the bulb or the ballast was always going out.

Now, on to your question. The ballasts will be getting power from the battery, but the lights are still getting their signal from the headlight socket, so it will behave as your stock lights do.

Alright OP I'll answer your question instead of bashing on you like everyone else. I had a pnp hid kit (kensuns actually) before I did my retrofit. Thousands of people around where I live run these kits and not once have I lost my eyesight and got in a head on collision. I think you'll be fine. Back to the kit it does connect to the battery. The headlights will turn off/on at the same times your stock headlights do now because it's connected to your headlight switch. I never noticed mine "flicker" it was more of just a slow warm up. Hope this helps. But seriously you'll be fine running it. Obviously I would recommend a retro to over it because performance is much better but like you I couldn't afford that at the time. Good luck with the install

Congrats on Nursing School. I just graduated and received my BSN in May and I know the struggles. Just get some Sylvania bulbs and call it a day.

This^^ sorry OP, but you might as well burn your $$ by buying a PNP kit, you won't notice much of an improvement in actual visibility simply due to the function of the design of the headlight assembly. Unless your secretly going for the ricer look, in which case, please contact your local PD for any questions in regards to legality.

Just because douchebro down the street runs HIDs in his brodozer dosent mean you can get away with it scot free. Here in the great Peoples Republic of Canada, cops like to add it on as a citation ticket for roadblocks or traffic stops if they don't like the cut of your jib when you roll the window down. In the meantime, use the money you just saved by not going douchebro, and go buy a nice case of quality brews instead.

Op is in Virginia, throwing HIDS in a vehicle that didn't come with that as a factory option is illegal across the US.... No need to ask local pd

If you can afford to buy mods and HID kits, you can afford to buy proper housings.

My kid sister just passed her boards and is now an RN, with $165k in school loans and doesn't bring up being a "poor and broke student" while standing in line to pay for HID kits.
