basic oil change question

how many quarts does a 4cly 09 taco take?
and i was reading the manual and it said something about re starting the oil change system ? is it nessesary and how do i go about it

With regard to your question of how many quarts, there are numerous threads here on the 4 cylinder forum regarding the number of quarts that 4 cylinder owners are putting in to correlate with the dipstick reading. The question has been whether to go with the dipstick reading or what the manual says. Manual says 6.1 quarts for oil and filter change. I guess it depends on the size filter you use as well as the amount of oil you drain. To keep mine consistent with the difficult to read dip stick, I usually end up putting in around 5.4 quarts with filter change. I use the small Toyota filter, 90915-YZZG1.

 

This is the first oil change since I got the car. The oil filter would not want to come off I used a strap wrench and yes I was turning it the right way it just didn't want to move any suggestions.

 

I should have been more specific concerning what the manual says. I was referencing what it says as to capacities on page 406. On page 370 of my manual, it indicates (on the diagram) that it is "Too full" if you are over the "Full level" on the dipstick. When I change my oil and filter, I start with 5 quarts and then add as needed to get to the full mark and that is usually around .4 more quarts.
