Well simple, if you have plate bumper dont hit anybody.....
If you are not at fault, it will be very hard for anybody in any state to complain about your bumper. No different than hitting armored vehicle or 18 wheeler.

Get a good insurance company. No worries. Get lowest price insurance, worry. If you get rear ended with legal tail lights, and the other insurnace company denies the claim have your insurance company repair your vehicle and pursue the AF carrier. They will win unless you brake checked em

civil suit? um maybe if you carry state minimum liab. Dont carry state minimum! Your insurance company will protect you up to your limits. If you have assets or plan on having assets, you best be protecting them with high liablity limits.

I agree with all of what you said, but it is not finished. Car companies want the safest they can get at a certain price. If car companies built the safest car possible we could not afford one so everything, including safety meets the price point.

You can be held liable for someone's injury or death outside of your insurance coverage.
We are in the realm of personal liability now.

I guess that depends on your limits. You kill someone have a million dollar home, and state min cov. Yea buddy you will be paying some out of pocket. You are reg joe blow, kill someone by a true accident, not road rage have very high limits and enough coverage to protect your assets. Your good. That is why you have Auto liablity insurance. To protect your assets. If you do not have enough insurance to protect your assets you risk losing them. Lawyers need to get paid. They are not cheap. Not going to pay 10-20k attouny feesto maybe get 5-10 k in court from Joe Blow civil suit.

Wouldn't have helped in that instance. I was at a dead stop and the heep hit me near highway speeds.

That tube bumper was solid too, very well built

I wonder how much the "hoops" help on these bumpers, or if a base plate bumper would protect against just as much damage...?

All total... I've got almost $2 grand in mine and would never look back. I'll take what I've got over the plastic covering the small aluminum crash bar attached to the frame. That said... I didn't buy my bumper for the extra crash protection. I bought it for approach angles. Where I go.... I need it.

Oh... and I'll give you my plastic bumper if you want to pick it up. It offers no collision protection so you're more than welcome to it.

I would assume the hoops would protect the animal (not car) from rolling onto the truck. Higher the bumper, the higher the animal has to go to get over the hood?
That would be my guess. Obviously not why they put them on there though hahaha
Most cars wouldnt even be able to reach that hoop on my truck haha

After you posted this last week I was going to say that I've never been in an accident where there was any more than just some simple body work to be done. Glad I didn't speak too soon.
Yesterday while making a trek across country me, my husband, and my mom took a flip (front over end) at 80mph slid several hundred feet across a highway and landed right side up in a ditch. The only time in my life where I have not worn a seatbelt. Luckily we were in my mom's Subaru Outback.
Everyone is surprisingly fine. I got beat up from hitting the roof, we have some glass cuts and they have seatbelt burns.

I'm telling you, at this point, screw bumpers and lets talk roll cages.
Have no clue what would have happened had we been in my 250. I could have been out the window for all I know.
Makes me want to get rid of it for a Tacoma even more.

Not really about bumpers, but kind of interesting given our discussion last week.

**I will never buy another car with a sun roof. My 250 has one. So happy the Subaru did not.
