Your depth perception must suck cause that wasn't flat at all. You expect the guy to crawl over boulder grained alluvial conglomerates in street tires? Smh.

At the very last part of the vid a pretty good case is made for having drum breaks in the rear.

    pretty impressive getting unstuck.

I am sure there are many of you with the skills to get that truck unstuck w/o crawl control but for the rest of us that is pretty impressive!

I'm not impressed. I've been buried like that climbing steep dune trails at the beach in my Tacoma and Cherokee. In that situation on a steep incline all you have to do is put it in reverse, hit the gas pedal and back out. Gravity is on your side. What would have been impressive is if they were able to climb up the hill after being stuck.

I like that the stock TRD DCLB Offroad has decent grown clearance. None of the sloping-down/airdam crap you see on the Colorado that looks like the rear end is 4 inches higher.

I am just glad that Toyota still puts an emphasis on real off-roading. Although this course isn't super hardcore, you wouldn't see GM doing this with the Colorado.

Check out some of the crawl control videos online in other Toyota trucks. More stuck than the Tacoma was. Not saying its magic but pretty impressive IMO.

Like I said, some of you have the skills. I'm sure I'd give it a whirl but nice to see what it can help with. Certainly not bullet proof and people should not count on it to work in all situations but i am sure it will come in handy.

I love how every 2016 tacoma thread turns into bitching about the 2016 tacoma.
    I shake my head.

They put skinnier tires on for fuel economy reasons. And besides if you want better tires buy them and put them on.

No, it's still just an excuse. If that was the case why not run front Drums? Why doesn't the 4Runner have drums while "towing" less weight? If I am honest, Toyota just straight up saved money with the move. The only benefit I see? It's damn easy to clean the rear wheels!

Is that you seatbelt bracket Mike ?

The only case here made is that, Chief ENg for Tacoma is out of his F mind.
Between "Turbo does not provide any fuel savings" despite a fact we have 3.5 Ford 150 ecoboost with great MPG
and now "drum brakes are better at cleaning themselves up" I think we have reached the end of the road.
If thats the Eng who designed new truck, God help us.

If drums are so much better why not use them on the front too ? What, front discs do not get sand ?

Is this Crawl feature designed for specifically for sand or does it work in snow too?

Sweers is reading these forums or at least knows there is a lot of negative feedback for the 2016. He's naturally defensive. That beings said, not all of it was his fault. He was told what to do by Toyota execs. My conspiracy theory is that this 2016 exterior was supposed to happen back in 2012 but didn't. Perhaps due to the tsunami and earthquake. Maybe other reasons too.

There is negative feedback, because Toyota changed what was good on 2Gen and Left what was bad. Who does that?
When you build something, you fix mistakes, you keep what worked.

Their problem is they clearly design this for California crowd. (if lack of rust protection was not enough indication)

Apparently seatbelt bracket Mike does not know that Crawl control and ATRAC is worth shit on slimy rocks, snow and ice.

Maybe if I was living in dry desert than I would see 2016 as improvement.

Seems some cannot respond without insults.

I gave an opinion. You disagree. Heck I disagree on most of what you post. It amazes me you even own a Toyota.
