Ok so I just bought a 2001 Tacoma V6 4WD. (My first manual ever :anonymous:)
I drove it and everything was riding nice UNTIL I parked it at home. When I got back into the car, I turned it on, let it warm up a bit, and: I couldn't put it into gear. No matter how hard I pushed... Nothing. I sat for like 12 minutes just trying to figure it out. I pushed in the clutch in all the way. It just wasn't going into gear. Any gear.
I finally figured out that it was the clutch pedal. I had to sort of pull it my way a little. Its almost like it doesn't want to go all the way up again. So now, I figure, I have to pull the clutch pedal a little and then push it in and then start and go.
So here's the question. What the heck is the problem? Is that normal? Is it a safety feature or what? Sorry for the long story, just paranoid about the problem.

Sounds like the master cylinder is going.

rockauto.com has them for $20-40. Plus a large bottle of DOT3.

Search on here and you will find the service manual for your truck. Or google and you should be able to find a PDF version you can get for free. It's not that hard, just messy. Drain the fluid as best you can, discount from pedal remove the lines, unbolt, and bolt on the new one. Put it back together in reverse order. Bleed it after your done. BSD (Beard Scale of Difficulty) is a 2.

So it wouldn't go into first gear? Next time slip it into second gear first then go up to first. Or while holding slight pressure like trying to get it in to first slowly ease up on the clutch a bit and it will go in.

It wouldn't go into any gear. Not reverse or anything.

That's where the second part of my suggestion comes in, your trying to line up teeth on gears that have been spinning separate from one another, they're not always gonna line right up. Sometimes you gotta let up on the clutch a bit to give things a little bit of a spin to help things mesh.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
Solid advice, especially if it is your first time driving manual. But don't try and force the stick, that is a great way to end up with a bent shift fork and a hefty rebuild fee for a tranny. Just let the clutch out super slow until the stick goes into gear and then push the clutch back in. This is just gonna line up the teeth.

Yeah sounds like the master clutch cylinder. Mine has been doing that intermittently. Just bought it 3 weeks ago. Looked under the dash and the seal is leaking on the master cylinder. Looks like it was recently rebuilt as the seal and push rod look brand new. I ordered one from Amazon that will be here next Wednesday. Good luck with yours. It looks like it'll be an easy fix.

I would suggest replace master and slave cylinders at the same time, bleed the system and call it done.
