What is the reasoning behind that? Why would something like GE Silicone II not work?

    silicon creates fogging...

if you do the BHLM correctly, there is no reason for extra sealant. preheat to 325, turn off oven!!!, push headlight parts together, let sit for 10 min in the preheated, turned off oven, then push together again after it comes out. i even use clips around the outside.

done a few this way, NEVER added extra sealant, and all is well!

HINT: get an oven thermo to monitor temp, the oven dial is not always correct. i used a thermocouple from my multimeter to ensure the oven was getting to 325.

If you guys are worried about putting it in the oven, you can always place your headlight in a box, seal up the seams with tape and leave a hole big enough for a heat gun to blow into.

I did my IS300 lights the same way and didn't need any other sealant. I think it's really more of a function of making sure they are pressed together right with even pressure and sealant around all the edges.

I got some serious fogging going on in one of my headlights. I'll have to redo the entire thing save for paint just to clean it up. I might just throw some silicon onto it anyways to make sure.
