BT. why do you own a Tacoma?

and what is good on slimy rocks, snow and ice?

I live in the desert. Guess the 2016 is an improvement for me. Can't help you if your incapable of maintaining your vehicle.

It has different terrains and speeds. Check our the 4runner forum or a youtube review of the trail edition 4runner for more details.

Its more like, friends set you up on blind date, you are all exited because they told you how gorgeous that girl is, how smart she is. You show up on blind date and there is some toothless meth addic not capable of remembering why she is there, with a face of Freddy Kruger.
    And you are like

Its disappointment, I tough I am going to get myself a new truck... after owning my current Tacoma for 9 years...

I understand you being underwhelmed. We all were for the most part. I'd say 7 out of 10 were disappointed. The only thing that would redeem it is getting 26 highway mpg (v6 4x4) or higher, which I doubt will happen.

26 MPG will not sway me...
other mike asked why I bought 2Gen (and hold on for 9 years)

The main reason why I hold on to that truck its a fact that 1GR with 750 Transmission was designed for Land Cruiser and built there before got shipped to NUMMI with rear Diff. Well that and I really the simple look of 2gen.
My rear Diff when I pulled has Hino stamps on it.
    What that means is that
Despite of crappy wheel bearings, rusting frame that will end up a patch work, softy suspension, not much comforts....

I know that drivetrain will survive all. Its overbuild, its strong and if it will not get you 500 000 miles at least it can take you to hell and back. I have Land Cruiser too so when I compare 2gen to LC I see two great vehicles, with geat engines, great transmissions.
    When I look at 2016
    I go

Every time I see that stupid avatar of yours I cringe. I'm tired of you saying unintelligent bullshit and setting back these discussions. Do you know a single person with a ecoboost?? The 4.0 gets better real world mpg. He's only defensive cause numb nuts like Blue T want a truck that's over engineered and under engineered at the same time. I could give 2 F's about disk brakes, I get a better version of the truck I have now. You have no grounds to say the LC legacy crap won't apply to this engine/transmission. The 3.5 will be more efficient, faster and tow more. I have no complaints.

Our 2012 4x4 SCREW 3.5L Eco has no problem getting the EPA rated 14/19. If you stay in the boost all the time then it gets crappy mileage. We pick up our 2015 tomorrow which is rated at 17/23 in 4x4 SCREW 3.5L Eco trim and significantly faster.

Well. I am in the position the I have no car at all right now because of my recent accident - I'm using a borrowed '05 Tundra. I could go get any vehicle I want. I had a '87 Toyota Truck that I put 185k on. I had a '95 4Runner I put 225k on before the motor self destructed - I was too busy with kids to realize some things I could have done to prevent that. I had some others, then a '99 Silverado 5sp manual (last of the breed - great truck), then a '04 Tundra that I put 200,225 on before I slid the poor thing into a ditch. Then a '14 Silverado CC that just got destroyed in a rear end accident.

Since my kids are starting to ship out to college I am going to go down sized to the Tacoma this time. I drove the '15 SR5 LB, Sport, and OR. They are all awesome trucks. I could steal one right now price wise but I am am going to choose to wait. Why? Because every single one of those Toyota trucks/4runners from the '87 to '15 regardless of size drives like a Toyota which I love and I know that every damn time they change something there is endless bitching about the change. It's ugly. The engine is wimpy. The interiors suck. All true statements on every one of those things one way or the other. But they were all bullet proof vehicles. I changed the oil and did the scheduled bigger maintenance like TB's and brakes etc. (oops on that 4runner but it was my bad). And you know what? I am pretty damn positive that this Tacoma is going to drive damn near the same as the '15 but with a newer more efficient motor and better m peee gees. And I will easily put 200-300k on it - I know this b/c every damn Toyota made in the last 30 years can do that so why would this be different? If not, I'll join whatever class action is going on and it will get dealt with or I will sell it and move on with my life.

As you can tell I am old enough to want a somewhat better interior. I live in the cold in Colorado and when it is below freezing. Yes, I want my hiney warmed - you should try it - it's actually nice, but if you didn't shell out for a limited you wouldn't know. My GF runs hot and I run cold so damn right let her turn her side of the cab down and let me turn my side up - this shit is in a zillion vehicles and it works. FFS even GM can make it work so can Toyota. If I want it let me have it already, if you don't want it buy a frigging SR and stop complaining that they offer it. I actually want some of the modern safety features. Know why? The shit works. I am here because all that shit worked 2 weeks ago. The damn sensors detected the crash and deployed the seat belt tensioners etc etc. You want primitive go get an ancient FJ and sign off. It's a damn shame Toyota can't put in OnStar. Know why? The shit works. When I got hit and my vehicle was disabled and the cabin was filled with smoke and I was disoriented b/c some jackass never touched his brakes and hit me from behind going 65 it was actually nice that OnStar came on and knew where I was and gave the GPS location to emergency services and I didn't have to do shit. Many of us actually want this stuff and we want it to work. (that being said I don't want a new Silverado or Colorado but it was well done engineering and I appreciate well done engineering regardless of who did said engineering) I want crawl control. Know why? I've gotten stuck as F&^% before trying to get to a remote climbing crag in the desert in Utah. Guess what. I do not want to trick my truck out and spend my days screwing with suspension and going rock crawling and perfecting my technique but I do like the idea that just maybe if I get stuck again maybe just maybe that crawl control will help get me unstuck w/o 3 hours of digging and shoving and pushing. If the head of Toyota truck engineering Mr. Belt Buckle can get a Tundra stuck in Baja getting ready for that race any of us can get stuck as well. If he wants crawl control to get his sorry butt out of a sand trap then I think it will probably be just fine for me, maybe not some of you bad ass rock crawling 4x4 fire breathing studs, but for the rest of us it will probably come in handy. And yes I want this in a LB DC so I can pile my bikes and climbing gear and kids in there even if a LB isnt the best thing ever for tricking out for 4x4 crazieness - thats not what it is for me - for you , just buy the SB and let me have my DC LB OR. My money.

    Geez.

Asbestos ass pad strapped on. Let the scalding flame war commence :)lalala:) but just realize there are a lot of us out there that want capable vehicles but maybe not something that is 10 years old which is what the '15 Taco is and maybe we have faith in the history of this brand and its lineage.

I would like to see them bury the tires in that sand on a flat section, instead of a hill, then back out of it...

    Truth.

TBH crawl control is pretty nifty but it is something that is more a feature rather than something that will change your life. I could of used it in some mud this weekend to allow myself more brain to concentrate on my line rather than my throttle control. At least it's more useful than a gopro mount. :D

"Towing is like the 22nd thing on the list". It's designed to be the best offroader in the segment, and it will tow reasonably well.

Been waiting for a decent profile shot of the DCLB TRD Offroad and got one finally. I kind of like the looks of the Off Road package with 4 doors and six foot bed.
