So if I managed to nominate someone in every riding for the Pirate Party they should be allowed into every debate as well?

BTW last I checked the Greens don't even have pictures up for most of their candidates they've rushed in for this election, let alone contact information:

Yes, if the leader of a party was in my riding, I didn't directly disagree with their views, and they were someone I would support without knowing which party banner they were waving, then yes I very well May vote for them.

 

Pretty sure the Greens have run candidates in all ridings for the last 2 elections and seeing how there has been a fixed election date for this election I doubt there was any rushing to fill candidates but whatever that's beside the point that the national party leaders were invited to the National Party Leaders' debate and I think May did a good job of asking questions re the policies of all 3 of the other leaders which may have gone un asked in a 3 way debate . i don't see how more info for the voters is a bad thing in any way

 

So what about having a couple of political sciences professors with international accreditations involved in the debate? I'm sure they have lots of questions that would be better than what May May come up with.

That would make more sense to me than a "national" candidate that has less than 5% national support.

If not, your country basically has a two party system with three separate elections. That's a bit different than what we have up here. In Canada it's not rare for three, or possibly more, parties to have a shot at each seat. It's not just left or right because TBH none of the major parties are that far in either direction, it's more about which flavor. In those circumstances, watching the polls can be a tactical move. I'm still voting for someone I want to see in government and who I believe will represent my interests well, because TBH most of the major candidates each have points I agree with.

Of course for all I know you really are Canadian, but most of your pictures are from Cali so I guess you may be from there.

It's probably ridiculously simple to explain but a very difficult problem to fix. Bottom line, poverty and other social issues are a major problem with indigenous peoples. That leads to the group being more susceptible to being targeted by psychopaths and serial killers who often tend to target minorities and disadvantaged groups in our society. Unfortunately the track record shows that trying to fix any problems in the indigenous communities is a way to cause more issues than you solve. To be honest the corruption and other issues in the system, even among tribal leaders themselves, really limits what any federal panel could do to help.

Throwing more money at the issues just leads to more corruption and trying to intervene to stop the corruption just causes racial tension. It's a no win scenario right now though I'd love for someone to figure out a way to improve it.

The sad, and somewhat funny, thing is that many reserves do operate efficiently and manage to provide excellent services to their band members without an issue and others, with even more resources, seem to be failing miserably. I had a friend in university that came from a reserve in Northern Saskatchewan that not only had decent housing and services, but had enough money to pay for 4 years of university for every child that graduated high school in the band. Yet some reserves, like one I can't quite remember the name of in Northern Alberta, receive tens of millions of dollars in energy resource revenue for natural gas and oil on their land, and still have most of the band members living in dumpy 1960's era housing while the ruling members spend their time in lush condos in Edmonton. It's a sad state of affairs that I, for one, don't see an easy way out from.

As long as indigenous peoples live in a system where they are often economically disadvantaged and socially not well accepted than they will be an easy target for the darker elements of our society.
