Nah, that doesn't make sense. If you use the injector cleaner and then stop it should take years until enough carbon builds up again.

Wow, watching Eric the car guy and he's going to pour water in to decarbonize his engine somehow!! He said carbon deposits form from taking short trips and never getting up to high speeds on the interstate. That's all we do in the Civ - short trips!! Might try to run her at interstate speeds/do whatever Eric the car Guy is doing with the water thing......

Something about creating steam inside the engine.....

that's exactly what I was going to tell you to do.

lets me get all tecnicalmalistic jargany on you.

to decarbon an engine, you simply add liquid into the intake of a fully warmed up running engine and when it hits the hot valves an cylinder it flashes into steam instantly removing carbon from all the surfaces, if it has any. seafoam, fuel system cleaners, or water its all the same but water is free. try decarbonizing it with water and see if that helps any but I think your problem is from engine wear related condition like the valves need adjusting. using thicker full synthetic oil might stop the noise as well its its from engine wear so I suggest you follow "eric the car guys" instructions to decarbonize and if that doesn't solve it then replace the leaking seal and put some 20/50 castrol full synthetic oil in it. if it still clatters after both of those, well car shop faster.

as to pinging, its a valve clatter noise you hear mainly only during acceleration or going up hills and its most common in engine that regularly run high octane premium gas and then you start putting premium in it. this is why you NEVER want to use premium in a new car, because you cant go back to regular or the valves clatter on you. if you engine started clattering and you haven't "just" switched from premium gads to regular, then its a mechanical issue or carbon buildup but its not what they commonly call pinging.

for carbon, chevron techron, large bottle full tank of gas, drive hard until empty, run second tank through, change oil. good experience for decades

oh, and let me add, I don't really think there is any need to decarbonize engines anymore now with computers and fuel injection, they run lean and generally don't build up any carbon if running correctly so there is no build up to decarbonize.

that said, a poorly running vehicle might be helped if its old and really high mileaged like yours is

No, just a fluffy DMH sweetie.

Im about two tanks of hard driving away from home and an oil change. Should that second tank also get Techron, or just straight gasoline?

Im not suspecting carbon build up or dealing with any issues other than clutch hydraulics (full R&R upon return to base), I just like lovingmytacolots.

I got one of those, too. Comes thru the cat door after dark, eats noisily, and washes its dirty mitts in the water dish. My guys just watch.

Once, when I arose and turned on the light to investigate the clatter, the coon looked at me with an expression of: That's too bright!

A spray bottle of vinegar makes a strong deterrent impression, Ive found.

I HATE raccoons. With a passion. Those things are absolutely NASTY creatures. I love animals, but those things aren't even animals IMO. They carry some seriously nasty scary diseases. Unfortunately they absolutely love the PNW climate, and they adore cities like Portland that has fruit trees and grape vines everywhere. They are constantly running around our neighborhood/yards every summer. Drives me batty!

Eric is dinking around with the Civic some more, I think he successfully replaced that seal for the oil leak. No clue where he's at with the suspected detonation/rattle issue, about to go find out.........

My elderly neighbor popped over this afternoon while I was staring at cars online and said her heart was fluttering and asked me to take her to the ER. Yikes!! Fortunately she's OK, but it was good that we went because her heart was doing some weird stuff and and they had to change her meds to fix it. Scared the crap outta me at first, I was afraid she might have a heart attack in the Taco on the way over!! I was so nervous I drove right by the ER entrance, then she had to direct me where to turn to get going the right way - yeah, I'm a real help in a crisis!! :rofl:Lucky we hadn't started drinking, normally by late Saturday afternoon there's a good chance that's not the case. :D

Just got back, now time to start nagging Eric to wrap it up for today (gotta shoo away a nosy neighbor first) so we can start drinking, :drunk: get some dinner going, :hungry::hungry: and watch Interstellar, finally!!! You guys seen it? We were on a wait list for it through our library, and it was finally ready for us today, sweetness!! Also got the Civic Chilton manual from the library today too. Go libraries, woo hoo!!! :D

Thanks for sharing your pet pics TW, I am totally enjoying them!!! :) Happy Saturday TW peeps!!

The second tank should be plain gasoline, use the highest octance available on both tanks. Be prepared for poor fuel economy and for the oil to turn black. This will also clean the fuel deposits on the intake valves and seats.

Techron became very popular with the BMW motorcycle community to solve pinging from carbon buildup, missing from poor intake flow from valve deposits and injector issues. Now I use it whenever a motor is just slightly low on power, every 5k miles or so I will throw a bottle in the gas. I did that on my company car, a 13 Ford Focus in June and am now seeing 40+ MPG in high speed interstate driving.

Up to the shop this morning to change throttle cables and springs on my wife's 1971 BMW R75/5 Toaster Tank...a true tutonic classic.

On the kitty, we have the tufts of hair between the toes and the ruff around the neck, and the thick fluffy tail, those are markings of a Maine Coon Cat or a Norwegian Forest Cat. We have a Norwegian Forest Cat, a torby, which is a mixture of a tabby and a tortiseshell.

    Yeah.
Man, I never even thought about checking movies out from the public library, that is brilliant! I bought Interstellar used on Blu-Ray for 12 bucks. It was worth 12 bucks.

Thanks TenBeers!! It really is so convenient. We can log into our library accounts at home, pick out books/movies from any county library, then they courier your selected stuff to the library of your choice and have it waiting for you under your name!! Not sure if all libraries are like that, but I love that system, it's brilliant! They have damn near every movie ever made, plus most every TV series on DVD. Then they have a new releases area - it's pretty picked over usually but sometimes you get lucky and score great movies that just released. Considering it's totally free and so convenient, we finally dropped our cable then even our Netflix & Roku subscription and just go to the library a couple times a week to pick up/drop off and raid the new release shelf! :D I get kinda ruthless about the new releases shelf, might catch me body checking old ladies when I see them headed that way :D

Loving Interstellar so far. Fell asleep ~1/2 way in last night, and we were going to save the rest of it to watch tonight, but can't wait - watching now with iced coffees :)
