Diff Drop Or N Drop

Hey I am about to install a pro comp 3" Lift on my 08 Tacoma Sport. Looks like the lift came with a diff drop. Should I install this or will it be ok without? Thanks

 

Some will say no because of that *one* guy who busted his differential on a rock during a race.

Some will say sure, it will help a *little* with the cv angles so you might as well.

If you look at the angles it really doesn't change the cv angle much.

That's kind of a non-issue. I've never heard of any failures caused by this.

 

I'm not saying you do get anything, but the *risk* is minimal as far as the lubrication issue goes considering there has never been a failure caused by it.

 

OP already has the part. It won't cost him any extra to install it.

Are you saying the cv angles don't change AT ALL with a diff drop?

 

He already has it so there will be no money spent.

I don't have a pesky front differential so I have no need to worry. I have used them in the past and felt silly afterwards looking at the "twist" that I gained instead of the "drop" I was hoping for.

 

HAHA thanks guys. I installed the drop anyway and like the cv's to be a bit better. DID run into a cracked leaf though when I went to ad the leaf. Sucks! have to wait for Toyota now cause its a recall issue, But at least Ill get new leafs. And Just to through this out there I was worried about all the feedback about the hard ride from the procomp kit. Driving home I didn't feel much of a difference.

 

I have the procomp 3 in lift as well. It does ride pretty rough but it has softened up after 5000 miles, still a little rough. It also lifted my truck almost 4 inches in the front at first(dcsb) but has since settled down to just over 3 inches. I did install the diff drop spacers, my inner cv boots are still rubbing on the fins. I will be swapping to the toytec kit in the future...

Just remember, if you build a poorly designed skid plate with huge notches on the bottom, and nail a rock at night, you, and hundreds of other members can blame the differential drop.

I've been running my diff drop for 55k miles with no issues. CV boots still look good.

Simplest answer, yes.

Was it stock angles? Not even close but the angles were better than without.

 

as long as it helps sounds worth it to me.

 

Yes I see a big difference at the cv.
