Want to up the mpg on those skinny tires? Jack the pressure up to the max listed on the tire! Less rolling resistance.....sure the truck will ride like a piece of shit and you will have a contact patch the size of a postage stamp...but hey, it's all about mpg right?

Seems like a narrow representation of tonneau covers. Consumer reports only tested soft tonneau covers and not one kind of hard tonneau. Wonder why they didn't test hard ones?

    They must be hiding something.

I read the following on the internet, so it is true:

Slap on a tonneau and profit in the MPGs already! 10%!! AT LEAST!!!

Stick it to those high gas prices!

Well your consumer reports report is only valid for 2013 ram bodystyle and didn't test the mesh. Mythbusters did a dakota IIRC. I think each truck matters as to the airflow over the cab. To say that they're all the same is just like saying all 4 door cars have the same drag coefficient and the same mileage.

I just put a big magnet on the fuel line,E4 spark plugs, platinum pellets in the gas tank, mini charger in the intake, sheep nut's on the hitch and a bottle of 'Listerine in the radiator. Picked up 30 wheel horsepower and after driving 50 miles the tank overflowed. Sorry I misplaced the dyno sheet and the photo's but every word is internet gospel.

I've actually been thinking about this lately. Ultimately what is it that has the biggest impact on MPGs? Another acronym - RPMs. Realistically to get the best Miles out of each Gallon you need to go as fast as possible while keeping your RPMs as low as possible. That sweet spot in a Tacoma would be right about that 50-55mph mark. You're in the 1,500 to 2,000 RPM sweet spot for the Tacoma and moving at a higher rate of speed.

Theoretically (if we ignore gear ratios and wind resistance) you'll use the same amount of fuel going 25mph at 1,500 RPM as you would doing 50mph at 1,500 RPM.

The biggest thing is tires but the whole point of having a truck is good tires...

Also keep it a little nose down, my lift help mpg...... A good air filter, synthetic fluids and iridium plugs also helped.... I can get 18-19 with a 2 1/2" lift and 275 70 17 cooper AT3s auto.... Snorkels seam to the best bolt on for better MPG and manual trans seam to get better MPG.......

Also clean the air filter after off roading, the truck acts like a giant vacuum and can plug the filter in just a day and will drop a few mpgs....

But I lease a civic for every day use and pays for 80% of the payment in gas savings and saves 10,000 miles a year on the truck so I can meet my 10 year goal for the truck..... Plus less wear and tear, less worrying of getting crashed just going to work, less frame rust and door dings ect..... Plus higher resale at the end I think it's working out really well.......

I do upgrades as regular maintenance so cost is not an issue and some maintenance I do early.... But switching to all synthetics on my 4runner, my daily mpg went from 17 to 19.....
Seams to help city mpg more than hwy mpg.....

On my truck full synthetics and iridium plugs about 1 mpg better.....

The trucks eat more gas than the runners.....

This isn't correct, especially the last part. Wind resistance is the biggest factor influencing fuel economy. When you're doing 50mph at 1500 rpm, the throttle is open wider (because you push down on the gas more) than it would be doing 25mph at 1500 rpm. More throttle=more gas used. The reason you've got to use more throttle is because of wind resistance.
